The Munich Radio Orchestra visits the Ridingersaal of Johannisburg Palace
Classics in Bavaria is the residency and palace tour of the Munich Radio Orchestra. The series masterfully combines interpreted music with the unique atmosphere of historic concert halls. 2026 marks the fifth edition; the tour visits, among other places, Bayreuth, Bamberg, Straubing, Oettingen, Freyung, and Aschaffenburg, where the orchestra will perform in the Ridingersaal of Johannisburg Palace.
Johannisburg Palace, a Renaissance castle on the banks of the Main, is one of Aschaffenburg's landmarks in the Bavarian Lower Main region (district and independent city of Aschaffenburg, state of Bavaria). The Ridingersaal provides a dignified setting for Baroque and Classical music – history, magnificent architecture, and sound merge into a special concert experience.
The program for the Aschaffenburg concert features works from the Baroque and Classical periods:

The 'Classics in Bavaria' concert series makes classical music accessible outside of major concert halls, while also highlighting the historic residences of the Free State. For Aschaffenburg and the Bavarian Lower Main region, the visit of the Munich Radio Orchestra is one of the musical highlights of Spring 2026.
The Aschaffenburg concert of the Classics in Bavaria 2026 series takes place on Thursday, May 21, at 7:00 PM in the Ridingersaal of Johannisburg Palace. The program includes Handel's Water Music (Suite No. 1 in F major) with vocal arias, Bach's cantata 'Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen,' and Mozart's Symphonies No. 1 and No. 29 and his motet 'Exsultate, jubilate.' The soloists are soprano Regula Mühlemann and the orchestra's principal trumpet, Mario Martos Nieto; the musical direction is by Ivor Bolton. The concert is part of the fifth edition of the palace tour, which in 2026 also includes Bayreuth, Bamberg, Straubing, Oettingen, and Freyung, among other locations.
Johannisburg Palace is located in the center of Aschaffenburg, a few minutes' walk from Aschaffenburg main station (ICE/IC stop, Frankfurt–Würzburg line). By car, take the A3 (Aschaffenburg exit) or the A45.
This is a ticketed concert event. Tickets are available through the Munich Radio Orchestra or BR-Ticket.
Concerts in the 'Classics in Bavaria' series are often well-attended – early booking of tickets is recommended.
