1st Advent in the thatched-roof barn — curated artisan market in the far north
Charlottenhof in Klanxbüll is a traditional North Frisian farm with thatched-roof buildings, operated year-round as a farm café, event venue, and farm shop. On the 1st Advent, the historic thatched-roof barn transforms into a small, curated Advent market — with a warm atmosphere, hay bales for seating, and a stall setup lovingly staged each year.
The exhibitor profile is consistently curated: no mass-produced goods, but crafts and regional products. Expect textiles (scarves, blankets, pillows), paper goods (cards, calendars, tags), wooden objects, ceramics, jewelry, herbs, and tea blends, as well as regional specialties like honey, jams, liqueurs, and cheese. The exhibitors are often present at their stalls, explaining their craft.
Culinary offerings reflect the region: kale with bratwurst and Kassler (the quintessential North Frisian winter dish), bratwurst, Pannfisch, waffles, homemade cakes, and mulled wine with a special spice blend. Phone reservations for café seating at 04668/9210-0 are recommended — seating is limited.
A lovingly prepared children's program is part of the market's DNA: crafting stations, a fairy tale corner, small competitions. At 2 PM, Santa Claus visits the farm — children can recite their wishes and receive small gifts. For many families in northern Schleswig-Holstein, this event is a fixed part of the pre-Christmas season.
Klanxbüll is a small community in the far north of North Frisia, about five kilometers from the Danish border and 50 kilometers north of Flensburg. Klanxbüll is primarily known as the starting point for the Hindenburgdamm to Sylt — the car train terminal in Niebüll is just a few kilometers away. Charlottenhof is one of the region's best-known farm cafés and a destination for Sylt travelers, day-trippers, and local families.
In 2026, Charlottenhof will once again open its thatched-roof barn on the 1st Sunday of Advent for the annual Christmas market. As in previous years, visitors can expect a curated selection of arts and crafts, regional specialties, and a wintery Advent atmosphere.
