The legendary Niebüll cultural festival returns after 30 years
Between 1979 and 1996, Das Superding, in eleven editions, was the largest cultural festival in the town of Niebüll in northern Schleswig-Holstein — a meeting point for music, theatre, readings, and encounters far beyond the town's borders. Three decades later, Neue Färberei Kulturhaus Niebüll e.V. is reviving the format: on March 28, 2026, celebrations will once again take place in the school center and the town hall.
Niebüll, with around 10,000 inhabitants, is the largest town in the Nordfriesland district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein and a transport hub between the mainland, Sylt, and Denmark. Die Neue Färberei, a socio-cultural center in a former dyeing workshop, is the town's most important cultural venue, hosting numerous concerts, readings, and workshops throughout the year.
Das Superding 2026 spreads its program across two central locations and four stages: the school center (main stage, auditorium, sports hall) and the town hall (hall stage). Concerts, DJ sets, open stages, readings, African dance and music performances, walking acts like Die mit dem Hut or Policia do Samba, a retro corner with an exhibition of historical photos and music from the 70s to 90s, children's activities, and stands from Niebüll associations make the festival a cross-section of Niebüll's entire cultural life.
Confirmed acts include the bands RePolice (covers of The Police), Kerstin Bogensee & Band, Mattis Brodersen from Föhr, Brian O'Driscoll with Band from Denmark, Lotta Schwarzbard from Flensburg, the NorderPopChor, and Ove Thomsen. With TANON – The African Network of Nordfriesland, a cultural bridge to the region's African diaspora will be presented on stage — dances, drum workshops, food offerings. Stadtmarketing Niebüll supports the event organizationally and financially.
The rebirth of Das Superding on March 28, 2026, marks one of the most ambitious cultural projects in northern Schleswig-Holstein in recent years. For over ten hours, celebrations will take place simultaneously across four venues: concerts, DJ sets, readings, African performances with TANON, walking acts, and a children's program merge into a tribute to the Niebüll cultural festival, which took place eleven times from 1979 to 1996.
The organizer is Neue Färberei Kulturhaus Niebüll e.V., supported by Stadtmarketing Niebüll and in close cooperation with TANON – The African Network of Nordfriesland, which integrates the region's African diaspora.
A detailed hourly schedule for the four stages will be published a few weeks before the event at dieneuefaerberei.de/dassuperding.
You can reach Niebüll via the B5 federal highway and the Hamburg–Westerland/Sylt railway line (Niebüll station, in the town center). The school center and the town hall are located directly in the center and are a 10–15 minute walk from the train station.
Advance tickets are available at Die Neue Färberei and via the Stadthalle Niebüll. Exact prices will be published in early 2026.
Food and drinks at stands, retro corner, children's area, walking acts in the outdoor area.
