Choir Festival in the RosenArena of the World's Largest Rose Collection
The Europa-Rosarium Sangerhausen, with over 8,700 rose varieties, is the largest rose collection in the world. Across 13 hectares, the garden showcases the entire evolutionary history of the cultivated rose — from wild roses and historical varieties to modern breeds. The first varieties bloom at the end of May, and the park reaches its peak at the end of June. In the midst of this floral expanse lies the RosenArena — an open-air concert stage with tiered seating, which becomes the venue for the Chortreffen every Whit Sunday.
In 2026, it will be the 20th edition of the Chortreffen — a remarkable anniversary for an event that has established itself in the Central German choir scene over two decades. On May 31, 2026 (Whit Sunday), choirs from Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, Saxony, and Lower Saxony will gather — mixed choirs, men's choirs, women's choirs, gospel ensembles, and children's choirs. They will perform in blocks of 15 to 20 minutes, while the audience wanders between the stage and the rose beds — concerts and the garden merge into a sensory experience.
The musical spectrum is broad: folk songs, sacred music, pop classics, gospel, folk, and sometimes classical arrangements. Diversity is the program — no judging, no competition, but a celebration of choral music in a special environment. The gathering usually concludes with a joint mass choir of all participants.
Sangerhausen is the Rose City of Saxony-Anhalt. Additionally, the Mansfeld mining district shapes the city — the state of Saxony-Anhalt, Mansfeld-Südharz district, offers a remarkable combination of industrial culture and garden art here. Visitors to the Chortreffen should take time to explore the entire Rosarium — and perhaps also the Röhrigschacht show mine.
The 20th Chortreffen is an anniversary edition. The Europa-Rosarium organization plans a more comprehensive day than usual — the exact time structure will be published in spring 2026 on europa-rosarium.de.
The participating choirs will be announced in advance on europa-rosarium.de.
