31st Season of Chamber Music at Caputh's Most Beautiful Venues — Castle, Church, Einstein House Garden
The Caputher Musiken has existed since 1995 and is one of the oldest continuously performed classical series in the southwestern Berlin surrounding area. The venue is the Caputh district of the municipality of Schwielowsee in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district — located directly on the Templin and Schwielow lakes, five kilometers south of Potsdam.
The series uses three characteristic venues: the festival hall of Caputh Castle (summer residence of the Electors and Queens of Prussia, now a museum), the Caputh Village Church (17th-century brick hall church), the Einstein House Garden (summer house of the physicist, now a memorial site), and occasionally the Castle Park for picnic concerts. Each venue has its own acoustic character and shapes the program profile.
The 2026 season includes nine publicly known concerts between May and November. They range from an organ and chamber choir production "Pharos" to a handbell concert "Ins Blaue," a Young Jazz Quartet Land's End, a men's choir evening "Von vor'm Grieg bis Grönemeyer," to Karsten Troyke & Trio Scho with Jewish songs and Soviet rock 'n' roll as a picnic concert in the castle park.
The Caputher Musiken maintains a deliberately low-threshold admission structure: several concerts are free or by donation, others cost €15, €18, or €22. The series thus explicitly positions itself as an offering for everyone from Caputh, Schwielowsee, Potsdam, and Berlin — regardless of their wallet.
Caputh is known not only for its castle but also for Albert Einstein's summer house, which he built in the early 1930s and which is accessible today as a memorial site. The Caputher Musiken consistently utilizes this genius loci: they combine chamber music with the historical-intellectual aura of the place and the natural backdrop of the Schwielowsee.
The series is supported by a close association and curator structure, closely linked with the Schwielowsee Tourism Association. The Caputher Musiken is one of Schwielowsee's most important cultural flagship events and, beyond its regional fame, a magnet for classical music lovers from the entire Berlin surrounding area.
The 31st season of Caputher Musiken 2026 offers a rich program of chamber music, vocal music, jazz, Klezmer, and a cappella. Venues include Caputh Church, the festival hall of Caputh Castle, the Einstein House Garden, and the Castle Park.
