Courtyard Festival — the concept with open gates
The Langerwisch Courtyard Festival follows the concept of "Höfefeste" (courtyard festivals), which has become popular in Brandenburg since the 1990s: instead of holding the festival on a central festival meadow, individual courtyards and house gardens open their gates and host their own events in their inner courtyards. You stroll from courtyard to courtyard, discover private properties that are otherwise closed, listen to music in a barn, eat homemade cake in a remise, admire arts and crafts in a workshop. The 18th edition will take place on Saturday, September 5, 2026 in the district of Neu Langerwisch.
Courtyards as individual stages
Each participating courtyard designs its own mini-program. Usually, between 10 and 15 courtyards are involved; a map with all the stations is available at the festival command center on the village square. You will find live music (folk, classical, singer-songwriter, brass bands), arts and crafts (ceramics, jewelry, woodwork), beekeeping stands, small exhibitions by local artists, and all sorts of culinary offerings — from Bockwurst in the courtyard garage to homemade schnapps from the village schnapps club.
Children's program and joint finale
There are special program items for children: fairy tale hour in the rectory garden, craft activities, petting small animals on a farm, carousel, and face painting. In the late afternoon, the festival usually concentrates on the village square, where a central stage hosts the musical finale — typically brass bands from the district or local bands.
Neu Langerwisch and Michendorf
Neu Langerwisch is a district of the municipality of Michendorf, located in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district, about 15 km southwest of Potsdam, directly on the edge of the Berlin suburbs. The municipality of Michendorf has around 12,000 inhabitants and consists of several districts along the historic Berlin-Beelitz transport axis. Neu Langerwisch has largely retained its small-scale courtyard structure — which makes the courtyard festival concept possible.
