About Buurefasnacht Weil am Rhein
Buurefasnacht Weil am Rhein — edition 2026
Buurefasnacht February 22, 2026 — Grand Parade
The 2026 edition of the Buurefasnacht Weil am Rhein promises once again to be the largest carnival parade in the southern Markgräflerland. With over 120 participating groups from three countries, a route length of about 2 km, and an estimated audience of 30,000 spectators, the event reaches a scale that few Fasnet parades in Southern Baden can surpass.
The mix of Swabian-Alemannic tradition (wooden masks, feathers, Larven), Basel-Land Fasnacht (Piccolo, Larve), and Alsatian carnival energy makes the parade a visually and acoustically unique event at the Dreiländereck.

Buurefasnacht Weil am Rhein — Tradition at the Dreiländereck
The Buurefasnacht Weil am Rhein is the largest street carnival event in the southern Markgräflerland and ranks among the top three parades in Southern Baden, alongside Lörrach and Müllheim. It has taken place for decades on Fasnachtssonntag and differs from classic Swabian-Alemannic carnival parades due to its location at the Dreiländereck (Germany, France, Switzerland): many groups come from nearby Basel (Switzerland) and Alsace — the Buurefasnacht is explicitly international. The organizer is the Interessengemeinschaft (IG) Weiler Straßenfasnacht.
The 2026 Parade — February 22, Assembly, Route
The parade starts on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 1:30 PM. Assembly from approx. 12 PM in the Margeritenstraße/Danziger Straße area. The parade route leads through the city center's main street to the Läublinpark — about 2 kilometers, through the entire center. Over 120 participating groups: Cliquen (masked groups in regional costumes), Zünfte (organized carnival guilds), Guggemusiken (loud brass bands in colorful costumes), and Wagengruppen (float groups) with thematic floats. Around 30,000 spectators line the route.
Cliquen from Three Countries
The mix of participating groups makes the Buurefasnacht special: Swiss Cliquen from Basel-Land bring their specific Basel-style mask tradition (Larven, Piccolo-Pfeifer), Alsatian groups bring French carnival elements, and the German Cliquen represent the Swabian-Alemannic Fasnet tradition with their typical wooden masks and feather headdresses. The result is a colorful cross-section of regional carnival styles — a unique feature of the southern Markgräfler Fasnacht.
After the Parade — Festival Center in Läublinpark
After the parade (endpoint reached approx. 4–5 PM), the action moves to the Läublinpark. There, Guggemusiken and bands play on the open-air stage, sausage and mulled wine stands serve refreshments, and the atmosphere continues into the night. Many pubs and restaurants along the city center's main street also remain open late, becoming venues for continued carnival festivities.
Weil am Rhein — The Three-Country City
Weil am Rhein (approx. 30,000 inhabitants, Lörrach district, municipality code 08336) is located directly at the Dreiländereck Germany–France–Switzerland. The city borders Basel (CH) and Huningue (F) and is known for its international architectural landmarks — Vitra Design Museum (Frank Gehry), Vitra Campus (Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando), Dreiländerbrücke. The Buurefasnacht fits this profile as a city of cross-border encounters.
