Open-Air Concerts on the Longest Castle in the World

The Burghausen Concert Summer has been a firmly established institution in the Inn-Salzach region since 2012. The organizer is COFO Entertainment GmbH & Co. KG, one of the most important concert agencies in southern Germany. Every two years — and thus again in 2026 — the series transforms the Waffenplatz on Burghausen Castle into an extraordinary concert venue. With a length of 1,051 meters, the castle is considered the longest castle complex in the world and is one of Bavaria's defining landmarks. Burghausen is located in the district of Altötting, in the administrative region of Upper Bavaria, directly on the Austrian border (Salzach) in the state of Bavaria.

Eight Concerts from August 6th to 13th, 2026

The 2026 season comprises eight consecutive concert evenings from Thursday, August 6th, to Thursday, August 13th, 2026 — a sequence that essentially makes the festival a week-long celebration of popular music. The Spider Murphy Gang kicks things off with an acoustic "unplugged" concert. This is followed by a symphonic tribute to Metallica, the acoustic guitar duo Café del Mundo, Nena live, Austrian singer-songwriter Gert Steinbäcker (concert already sold out), a film music night featuring the works of Hans Zimmer and John Williams, "ABBA Gold — The Concert Show," and the grand finale with Oimara and band, plus Pietro Basile.

Diversity from Bavarian Pop to Symphonic Tribute

The Concert Summer stands for a broad musical spectrum. Since the 1980s, the Spider Murphy Gang has been one of the defining acts of Bavarian pop music ("Skandal im Sperrbezirk"). Nena is one of Germany's most internationally successful artists ("99 Luftballons"). The film music night, featuring works by Hans Zimmer ("Inception," "Gladiator") and John Williams ("Star Wars," "Indiana Jones"), brings symphonic orchestral music to the historic fortress. ABBA Gold is one of Europe's most-watched tribute shows. The festival finale is presented by Oimara — known for "Wackelkontakt" — and Pietro Basile with a modern Bavarian pop synthesis.

Burghausen — Medieval Heritage and Industrial History

The town of Burghausen has around 19,000 inhabitants and is one of the most historically significant towns in the southeastern Bavarian Inn-Salzach region. The castle, founded in the 11th century and expanded in the High Renaissance, forms the town's landmark. Today, Burghausen is also an important industrial location (Wacker Chemie, OMV). The Concert Summer on the Waffenplatz utilizes the unique historical ambiance — fortress walls, cityscape, and the Salzach river — as an extraordinary stage backdrop.

Eight Open-Air Evenings on the Longest Castle in the World

The Burghausen Concert Summer 2026 brings eight top-class concerts from Thursday, August 6th, to Thursday, August 13th, 2026, to the Waffenplatz of Burghausen Castle. The series is a regular fixture in the Inn-Salzach region and is organized by COFO Entertainment every two years. The acoustics of the historic fortress square, combined with the panorama of the town and the Salzach river, make each concert a special experience.

The program ranges from acoustic Bavarian rock (Spider Murphy Gang unplugged) and symphonic tribute concerts (Metallica, Hans Zimmer & John Williams) to German pop icons (Nena) and internationally touring shows (ABBA Gold). The festival finale on August 13th features Oimara with band and Pietro Basile — a modern Bavarian pop synthesis.
