Celebratory concert for the choir's 20th anniversary in the Wunderblutkirche Bad Wilsnack — June 7, 2026, 3 PM
Bad Wilsnack is located in the western Prignitz region, in a quiet corner of Brandenburg between the Elbe and Havel rivers. The small spa town is known regionally for two things: its moor-based therapy offerings (Kristall Kur- & Gradier-Therme) and its Wunderblutkirche St. Nikolai — a late Gothic brick church that was one of the largest pilgrimage destinations in Central Europe during the Middle Ages. Today, it is a regular concert venue and shapes the musical life of the town.
The Wilsnack Cantabile choir was founded in March 2006 by former members of the Wunderblutkirche choir and other music-loving residents of the region. Over two decades, it has become an integral part of cultural life in the Prignitz — with a reputation that extends far beyond the state borders. Around 60 active members, aged between 25 and 80, meet on Mondays from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM for rehearsals at the Elbtalschule Bad Wilsnack. For concerts, typically 40 to 45 singers are on stage. The repertoire ranges from sacred music of the Renaissance to modern compositions, from large oratorios to folk song arrangements.
2026 marks the twentieth anniversary — an occasion for a celebratory concert in the Wunderblutkirche St. Nikolai on the Sunday after Pentecost (June 7, 2026, at 3 PM). The concert is announced as the highlight of the season and is part of the spa town's rich event program. Throughout the year, there will be other musical events: the traditional Sängerfest (singers' festival) of the Prignitz in the Gutspark (June 13), a first Senior Summer Festival (June 20), the Pilgerfest (pilgrimage festival) (August 22), and the Advent Christmas market with an Advent concert on December 4.
The Wunderblutkirche itself is an experience. The late Gothic hall church, built in the 14th century, impresses with its imposing brick architecture, ornate star vaults, and a carved high altar from 1518. The natural acoustics make the space an ideal stage for choral music. Anyone seeking a special concert evening in Brandenburg, rich in history and sound, will find it here — a blend of local culture, medieval architecture, and top-class choral music.
On June 7, 2026, at 3 PM, the Wilsnack Cantabile choir invites you to the anniversary concert in the Wunderblutkirche St. Nikolai. Two decades after its founding in March 2006, the concert marks a musical balance and the start of new chapters — performed by around 40-45 singers under the choir's direction and in collaboration with the Symphonic Orchestra of the Kreismusikschule Prignitz (conductor: Axel Gliesche). The exact selection of works will be announced by the choir in the weeks leading up to the event.
