Anniversary concert of the Wilsnack choir in the Wunderblutkirche St. Nikolai — on June 7, 2026
Bad Wilsnack in the Prignitz district, about 150 km northwest of Berlin, is today a spa town with just under 2,700 inhabitants. In the late Middle Ages, the town was one of the most important pilgrimage centers in Europe: after the supposedly miraculous preservation of three bleeding hosts around 1383, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims flocked to Wilsnack — the present-day Wunderblutkirche St. Nikolai was specially expanded in grand style for this pilgrimage and is one of the most important sacred buildings of Brick Gothic in Northern Germany.
The Wilsnack Cantabile choir was founded in 2006 on the initiative of dedicated singers from Bad Wilsnack and the surrounding area. Goal: to establish sophisticated choral music in a small, rural town. In the 20 years since its founding, the choir has become an integral part of cultural life in the Prignitz region. Regular concerts in the Wunderblutkirche, participation in the Bad Wilsnack Pilgrimage Festival, concert tours — the choir maintains a broad repertoire ranging from sacred Renaissance music (Schütz, Praetorius) and classical choral repertoire (Mendelssohn, Brahms) to contemporary pieces.
The anniversary concert on June 7, 2026, is the musical highlight of the Wilsnack event calendar. Starting at 3 p.m., it is scheduled so that day-trippers from Berlin and Hamburg will find the journey worthwhile. The acoustics of the Wunderblutkirche — a high Gothic space with a long reverberation — particularly benefit choral music. The program includes works from the choir's 20-year history: from the first concert piece in 2006 to current arrangements. A joint performance with friendly choirs from the Prignitz region is also expected.
Those attending the concert can fill the day in Bad Wilsnack completely: visit the Wunderblutkirche (regular guided tours), stroll through the spa gardens, visit the Kristall-Kur- und Gradier-Therme, or hike through the Karthane floodplain. In the spring-summer of 2026, numerous other events will also take place in the spa town — the Kneipp Festival (April 18), the Prignitz Singers' Meeting (June 13), the Pilgrimage Festival in the Gutspark (August 22).
The Wunderblutkirche St. Nikolai has been the home of Wilsnack Cantabile since the choir was founded in 2006. In the anniversary concert on June 7, 2026, the choir combines its 20-year tradition with the special acoustic character of this space. The 3 p.m. date allows day guests from Berlin and Hamburg to travel — the concert duration is approx. 1.5 hours.
Detailed concert program and ticket prices will be communicated via the Bad Wilsnack parish office and the Wunderblutkirche newsletter (Tel. +49 38791 2721).
