Public Run through the Moorland
The Moormeile Bad Wilsnack is one of the most traditional public running events in Northwest Brandenburg. For over two decades, the run has attracted amateur runners every October from the Prignitz, western Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Wendland, and even Berlin to the small spa town of Bad Wilsnack. On Saturday, October 17, 2026, starting at 7:00 a.m., the 26th edition will take place — this time with start and finish at the Karthanehalle, Mühlenstraße 23.
Route through Moor and Meadows
As the name suggests, the route leads through the moor and meadow landscape around Bad Wilsnack. The Karthane, a small tributary of the Elbe, shapes the damp lowland landscape, alternating between alders, birches, and reeds. In October — when autumn mists lie over the meadows and the birches turn golden — the landscape develops a special melancholic beauty. The organizers offer various route lengths: from children's and Bambini runs to the classic public running routes (5 km, 10 km) and the half marathon. Exact distances will be published on moormeile.de.
Early Start 7 a.m. — Why So Early?
The unusually early start time (7:00 a.m.) has become customary over the years: days are short in October, many participants travel from further afield, and the early start ensures that all competitions (from the children's run to the half marathon) can be completed in daylight. For early risers, breakfast is available beforehand at the Karthanehalle, followed by a communal pasta buffet and awards ceremony after the run.
Bad Wilsnack — Spa Town with Pilgrimage History
Bad Wilsnack is a small spa town with just under 2,700 inhabitants in the Prignitz district of Brandenburg. In the Middle Ages, Wilsnack was one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Northern Germany — the veneration of the Holy Blood in the Wunderblutkirche attracted tens of thousands of pilgrims annually until Martin Luther and the Reformation put an end to the pilgrimage in 1552. Today, the town is primarily known as a spa resort with moor baths — the Moormeile celebrates precisely this identity as a town in the moor.
A Tradition of the Community
The Moormeile is organized on a voluntary basis by the Bad Wilsnack City and Tourist Information, supported by numerous local clubs, sports clubs, and sponsors. The run is consciously low-threshold — not a professional competition, but a shared sports day for families, amateur runners, and ambitious amateur athletes from the region.
