Medieval Charm at the Estate
The Bucher Weihnachtszauber stands out from most Berlin Christmas markets: it's not held in a central city square, but at the Stadtgut Berlin Buch, a historic estate at Alt-Buch 45 in the far northeast of the capital. For a weekend in December, the estate – especially the Feste Scheune – transforms into a medieval-inspired Christmas market.
What Defines the Market
Instead of LED fairy lights, campfires dominate; instead of pop music, you'll hear Minnesang, Irish, Nordic Folk, and Celtic Rock. The stalls offer handmade crafts, jewelry, leather goods, ceramics, and culinary specialties – from game sausages to mead and mulled wine. Jugglers provide entertainment, and the scent of roasted almonds and open fires sets the mood.
Children's Program
Families will find a dedicated program:
- Candle dipping at the open fire
- Blacksmithing with a master smith
- Christmas crafting
- Storytellers in the barn
- Juggling performances and interactive acrobatics
Berlin-Buch and the Historic Estate
Berlin-Buch is located in the north of the Pankow borough, about 18 kilometers from the Brandenburg Gate. The district was long perceived as a Brandenburg village and is home to the Stadtgut, one of Berlin's oldest surviving estates. Today, the Stadtgut is a venue that consciously embraces tradition and highlights Buch's village heritage. The Weihnachtszauber is the annual highlight of its program.
Admission and Travel
Admission is free. Take the S-Bahn S2 to Buch, then a 5-minute walk or bus 158/353. Parking is available around the estate by car.
