Community festival of the Brandenburg commuter community on the outskirts of Berlin
Panketal was created in 2003 through the merger of the two former villages of Zepernick and Schwanebeck in the south of the Barnim district. With around 21,000 inhabitants, Panketal is now one of the most populous municipalities in Barnim — and above all, a classic commuter community: many residents work in Berlin, which borders directly to the south. The S-Bahn line S2 connects Zepernick with Berlin-Mitte in about 40 minutes. Despite its immediate proximity to Berlin, Panketal has retained its village-like, green character — with single-family homes, gardens, and the Panke river, which flows through the municipality and gives it its name.
The Panketal Summer Festival is the annual community festival. Employees of municipal institutions — library, daycare centers, schools, administration — association representatives, and volunteers from the community are invited. Citizens are also welcome. It is a deliberately hybrid format between a company festival and a public event: a thank you to everyone who supports the community, and an opportunity for interaction beyond the usual institutional boundaries.
Even though the complete program for 2026 will only be published shortly before the date on the municipal website, the summer festival follows a proven municipal concept:
The summer festival follows a registration model: those who wish to participate must register in advance online using the form at panketal.de/sommerfest.html. Name, affiliation with a municipal institution (library, daycare center, school, administration, association) if applicable, and data protection confirmation are required. Registration allows the municipality to plan catering and seating.
For those unfamiliar with Panketal, the festival day can be combined with a walk along the Panke river — the small river flows through the municipality in a natural setting. The Schwanebecker Forst offers hiking and cycling trails. The S2 line takes you to the center of Berlin in 40 minutes — Panketal is a good starting point for a weekend that combines Brandenburg tranquility and Berlin culture.
The Panketal Summer Festival 2026 will be celebrated on Friday, June 5, 2026, in the municipality of Panketal. The organizer is the municipality of Panketal itself. The summer festival is the annual community festival with the character of a hybrid format between a thank-you event for municipal employees and volunteers, and an open meeting event for the citizens.
The location and detailed program will be published shortly before the date on panketal.de/sommerfest.html. Online registration is possible via the same form and allows the municipality to plan catering and seating.
