Bremen's free cultural and music festival on the Osterdeich
When high summer reaches Bremen, the Breminale sets up its stages on the wide meadow of the Osterdeich. Every year, a cultural mile emerges between Sielwall and Weserstadion, pulsating from early afternoon until deep into the night. You'll experience more than just concerts here: the Breminale is lived Bremen identity, a meeting point for families, students, culture enthusiasts, and everyone who wants to celebrate summer by the river.
Over 120 acts grace the stages on the Osterdeich every year. The programme ranges from Indie Rock and Electro to Soul, Funk, Singer-Songwriter, Hip-Hop, Folk, and experimental sounds. Young bands from Bremen and the surrounding area stand shoulder-to-shoulder with established national and international names. The Heimspielbuhne (home game stage) and the label van area are particularly important platforms for regional newcomers.
In addition to concerts, you'll discover a dense accompanying programme at Breminale: street theatre and walk acts wander through the grounds, acrobats and clowns showcase their skills in the circus tent, authors read from current books, and comedians provide the evening's laughter. A dedicated children's programme with craft activities, interactive concerts, and theatre performances makes the festival a family event.
Food stalls offering Bremen specialities, international street food, and vegetarian-vegan options line the area around the stages. For years, Breminale has consistently focused on reusable packaging, waste separation, and regional supply chains. Bars in old construction trailers, cocktail bars, and the obligatory Bremen beer by the water are just as much a part of it as the Ferris wheel that towers over the festival grounds.
Founded in 1987, Breminale emerged from Bremen's off-culture scene and has developed into one of Germany's most significant free city festivals. Despite its growth, the festival has retained its non-commercial character: free admission, low drink prices, and a strong connection to social and ecological initiatives of the Hanseatic city. Breminale is organised by concept bureau UG, based in Am Wall, supported by numerous public funders and over 100 partners.
The Breminale 2026 runs from Wednesday, July 1st, to Sunday, July 5th, on the Weser meadow at Osterdeich. In 2026, bands, DJs, and solo artists will perform on nine stages with over 120 music acts – Bremen bands stand shoulder-to-shoulder with national and international names. In addition, there's a dense accompanying programme of theatre, circus, comedy, and readings, as well as an extensive children's programme with instrument-making workshops, recycling craft activities, storytelling theatre, a science kiosk, and creative workshops. Admission to the main area remains free; to cover rising production costs, a Breminale Fan Club (from €12 per year) was introduced in 2026.

Breminale is centrally located on Osterdeich between Sielwall and Weserstadion. Take tram line 2 or 3 to Sielwall, then a short walk to the festival grounds. From the main train station, you can reach Osterdeich in about 20 minutes on foot or take line 10 to Theater am Goetheplatz. Parking spaces in the immediate vicinity are very limited; arriving by bicycle or public transport is expressly recommended.
Admission to the entire main festival area is free. Only individual special formats (e.g., FLUT in LichtLuftBad) may charge a small fee.
It's best to plan your visit for the early evening when the big headliners play. Blankets or small folding stools are welcome, but large picnic baskets and glass bottles are not permitted. Contactless payment is possible at most stalls.
