Advent Magic in the Baroque City
Fulda is one of Germany's most beautiful Baroque cities: the Cathedral, City Palace, Universitätsplatz, and the historic market area with Heilig-Kreuz and Buttermarkt form a cohesive old town from the 17th/18th century. When the lights are switched on from mid-November, the city center transforms into a multi-part Christmas market — the Adventszauber.
5 Themed Areas, 100 Stalls
What sets the Fulda market apart from others: It is divided into five parts. Instead of a central market, it takes place on five squares, each with its own character, connected by a short walking distance. Around 100 stalls are spread across a total area of approximately 12,000 m².
- Universitätsplatz — Classic Christmas Market with a large pyramid and festively decorated stalls — the centerpiece
- Borgiasplatz — Children's Christmas Land: the 15-meter Ferris wheel (new for 2026), carousel, and children's stage
- Vonderau Museum — Medieval Village as a sensory spectacle with medieval catering, artisans, and distillers
- Heilig-Kreuz — Winter Forest, illuminated forest scenery, cozy and magical
- Buttermarkt — Regional Market with culinary specialties from the Rhön region
From Universitätsplatz to Buttermarkt
A key strength of the market: The distance from Universitätsplatz to Buttermarkt is only a few minutes on foot. Those with an hour to spare can explore all five areas — those planning a full Advent afternoon can delve deeper into each section. Several stages in the squares offer music and entertainment, along with city tours throughout the season.
34 Days of Market
The market runs for 34 days — from November 20 to December 23. Opening on November 20, closed on November 22 (All Souls' Day and Day of Repentance in some years). Open daily from 11 am to 8 pm, until 10 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
