Wine meets Art
"Wine and Art in Schwaan" is an annual summer event that brings together two pleasures: tasting wines and experiencing art. It takes place in Mühlenstraße – in the vicinity of the historic water mill, which houses the Schwaan Art Museum. The format emphasizes a relaxed atmosphere: no big festival spectacle, but an afternoon where you can discuss art over a glass of wine.
Schwaan – Mecklenburg's Only Artists' Colony
Schwaan has carried its artistic identity for over a century. Around 1890, the small market town, with native Schwaan resident Franz Bunke, developed into Mecklenburg's only artists' colony. Bunke helped plein air painting gain prominence; along with Rudolf Bartels, Peter Paul Draewing, and Alfred Heinsohn, other artists shaped the colony. The Schwaan Art Museum, opened in 2002 in the old water mill from the late 18th century, is dedicated to this heritage with exhibitions and its collection.
A Summer Afternoon in Mühlenstraße
The event begins in the afternoon and is designed for enjoyment and social interaction. Wine tasting and art go hand in hand – a concept that picks up on Schwaan's cultural tradition and translates it into a convivial setting. Mühlenstraße, with the museum building, provides the fitting backdrop.
Schwaan in the Rostock District
Schwaan is located on the Warnow river in the Rostock district of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, between the Hanseatic city of Rostock and the Barlach city of Güstrow. Visitors to "Wine and Art" can easily combine the date with a tour of the painters' town and a museum visit.
