In the summer of 2026, the Münchner Volkstheater will perform Kurt Wilhelm's stage classic »Der Brandner Kaspar und das ewig Leben« in the Passionstheater Oberammergau. The production is directed by artistic director Christian Stückl, who is at home with his staging at the Volkstheater and in Oberammergau. Two performances on July 3rd and 4th, 2026, will bring the famous Bavarian play, based on the story by Franz von Kobell, to the stage of the unique Passion Play venue at the foot of the Kofel – with live music by the Riederinger Musikanten, set design by Alu Walter, and costumes by Ingrid Jäger.

In the summer of 2026, the Münchner Volkstheater will perform the Brandner Kaspar on two evenings in Oberammergau. Performances are scheduled for Friday, July 3rd, and Saturday, July 4th, 2026, both starting at 7:30 PM in the Passionstheater.

Oberammergau is located in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district at the foot of the Kofel. By car: Take the A95 Munich–Garmisch motorway, then the B23 to Oberammergau. By train: Regional train from Munich via Murnau to Oberammergau, station is right in the village.

»Der Brandner Kaspar und das ewig Leben« is one of the most famous Bavarian stage plays. It tells the story of a cunning old man who gets the Boandlkramer – Death in Bavarian guise – drunk on cherry liqueur and tricks him out of extra years of life in a card game. A heavenly transgression that brings Saint Peter into play: The Boandlkramer must ultimately convince Brandner to show him the beauty of paradise.
