Classical Music in a Baroque Monastery

Kloster Ettal, one of the most impressive baroque complexes in Upper Bavaria, is picturesquely located in the Ammergau Alps near Oberammergau. In August, it becomes the stage for the Klassik Sommerfestival with its International Summer Academy – one of the region's most beautiful classical events, organized by Ammergauer Alpen GmbH.

Academy and Festival in One

Around 90 music students, primarily from German-speaking countries but also from around the world, come to the Ammergau Alps each year to learn from the best in masterclasses. During the day, there is teaching and practice, and in the evenings, concerts take place: for two weeks, free concert evenings by academy students alternate with concerts by professional guest musicians. The musical spectrum spans a wide variety of classical genres and styles.

Free Academy Concerts

All concerts by academy students are accessible free of charge; no registration is required. Performances are held in the Rosner Aula of Kloster Ettal. The event culminates in the "Lange Nacht der Musik" (Long Night of Music), where the audience wanders through four different concert venues in monastery rooms not usually accessible.
