Christmas market on the first weekend of Advent on Borken's market square in the Münsterland region
The Borken Christmas Market traditionally takes place on the first weekend of Advent — from November 28th to 30th, 2026. The organizer is the City of Borken in cooperation with the local city marketing department, and the venue is the historic Borken Market Square around St. Remigius Provost Church. Over three days, around 30 stalls will be set up in the city center — manageable, familiar, and down-to-earth Westphalian style.
The exhibitors offer classic Christmas market goods: mulled wine (also in a non-alcoholic version), bratwurst, potato pancakes (Reibekuchen), candied almonds, crêpes, and gingerbread. Regional artisans also present wood carvings, candles, knitwear, and jewelry. On the small stage, local church choirs, music associations, and dance groups take turns — the performance by the Borken school choirs is a must-see for parents and grandparents.
A nostalgic carousel will be turning on the market square for all three days. Additionally, there will be regular reading sessions in the glow of the fairy lights — the story hour on Sunday afternoon is a firm Advent tradition for many Borken families. St. Nicholas usually walks through the market on Saturday, handing out small bags to the children.
Borken is the district town of the Borken district in the western Münsterland, located between Münster and the Dutch border. With around 42,000 inhabitants, Borken is the second-largest town in the district. The historic market square with the Gothic St. Remigius Provost Church forms the center of the inner city — an ideal setting for a classic, compact Christmas market. Those looking for Westphalian Advent tradition without the hustle and bustle will find it here.
