Anniversary Edition — Since 1974 the largest wine festival on Lake Constance, three days of festivities at Schlossplatz
Meersburg is one of the most beautiful towns on Lake Constance — a small medieval town in the Bodenseekreis district, with a castle, palace, historic old town, and a location directly on the water that is one of Southern Germany's most photographed postcard motifs. Wine has been cultivated in Meersburg since the Middle Ages — the slopes on the northern shore of Lake Constance are among Germany's northernmost wine-growing regions, benefiting from favorable climatic conditions due to the lake's influence. The winemakers of Meersburg and the surrounding area (Hagnau, Konstanz, Bermatingen, Bermatingen-Ahausen) form a closely connected wine region with its own distinct character — the Bodensee wines.
The 2026 edition is the 50th anniversary of the Bodensee-Weinfest — founded in 1974, celebrated annually, half a century of wine tradition on Lake Constance. The anniversary will be marked with a festive and packed program. Venue: Schlossplatz Meersburg, directly on the shore of Lake Constance, with views of the castle and the lake. Three days of program:
The most important Lake Constance winemakers will be present on Schlossplatz:
The typical grape varieties of the region: Müller-Thurgau, Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris), Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), Bacchus, Riesling, and the Lake Constance classic Spätburgunder Weissherbst — a light, fruity rosé made from Spätburgunder grapes.
Regional cuisine is inextricably linked with wine culture on Lake Constance:
The musical profile is clear: Brass music as the backbone (city bands from Meersburg, Hagnau, Friedrichshafen, and the entire region), plus cover bands, folk dance groups, and occasional solo acts. Two stages distribute the performances across Schlossplatz, allowing for program overlaps. The atmosphere is classically Southern German — beer benches, long festival tables, brass music in the background, Lake Constance waves in the foreground.
The 2026 anniversary edition marks half a century of the Bodensee-Weinfest in Meersburg. Started in 1974 as a small local wine initiative, the festival is now one of the most important wine events in the Lake Constance region, attracting thousands of visitors to Schlossplatz every year.
Three days of program — Friday opens from 4:45 PM with a festive speech and city bands, Saturday from late morning until midnight in full festival operation, Sunday with brunch and family program. Two stages with continuous musical program — brass music from all over the Lake Constance region, cover bands, folk dance, live performances.
Admission to the festival grounds: free. Wine and food are paid for directly at the stands: Glass of wine (0.2 l) typically €3–4, bottle of wine €8–15 depending on producer and quality, whitefish dish €12–18, cheese platter €8–12. Wine glass with a deposit — refundable at the end. Payment by card and cash.
By train: Uhldingen-Mühlhofen or Friedrichshafen station, then take a bus or Lake Constance boat to Meersburg. The Lake Constance boat from Konstanz, Friedrichshafen, Lindau offers a scenically attractive journey. By car: B31 to Meersburg, parking available on the outskirts — the old town is a pedestrian zone.
Admission to the festival grounds: free. Wine and food are paid for with tokens or directly at the stands. A wine glass with a deposit is standard — refundable at the end of the evening.
Come on Sunday morning for the Wine Festival Brunch — the Schlossplatz is particularly beautiful in the quiet morning light of Lake Constance. Those arriving by Lake Constance boat can combine wine tasting with a boat trip — one of the most beautiful day trips in Southern Germany. Try the Spätburgunder Weissherbst — a typical Lake Constance rosé, produced only here in this form. Fresh Lake Constance whitefish directly from the fisherman is the culinary specialty you shouldn't miss.
Hotels and guesthouses in Meersburg, Hagnau, Uhldingen, Friedrichshafen. Early booking is strongly recommended — the 50th anniversary wine festival is expected to be very busy, and the weekend is booked out weeks in advance.
