Black-, Pagan- and Death-Metal festival on the Buchenbach sports field in Hohenlohekreis
Boarstream Open Air originated in 2013 from an idea by local metal fans who wanted to give their region its own festival — and it has since become an insider tip in the German underground metal scene. "From Metalheads for Metalheads" — this guiding principle shapes the entire festival: from the volunteer team and the familial atmosphere to the uncompromising booking off the beaten track.
The venue is the Buchenbach sports field at Herrenwiesenweg 22, a district of Mulfingen in the Hohenlohekreis (AGS 08126). Mulfingen is located in one of the quietest corners of Baden-Württemberg, surrounded by forests, meadows, and the Jagst river — an almost paradoxical setting for extreme music. The grounds offer space for approximately 666 visitors, providing a rare opportunity to experience international bands up close. Camping and parking are available free of charge directly at the festival grounds.
16 bands over two days, exclusively extreme metal: Black Metal, Pagan Metal, Folk Metal, Death Metal. The booking is consistently international, covering everything from established acts like Catamenia or God Dethroned to exciting newcomers. The festival opens on Friday from 5:15 PM, and on Saturday from 7:00 PM — with seamless band changes on a single stage each day.
The Hohenlohekreis is located in the northeast of Baden-Württemberg, a region characterized by castles, palaces, wine, and quiet beauty. The fact that one of the most consistent Black Metal festivals in the country is based here adds to its unique appeal: metal in the province, without commercial pressure, with a community that organizes the festival themselves every year.
With its 13th edition, Boarstream Open Air remains true to its concept: two days of extreme metal in one of Baden-Württemberg's quietest corners, 666 tickets, uncompromisingly international, from Black Metal to Pagan and Folk to Death Metal.
The headliner is the Finnish Black Metal institution Catamenia, complemented by the Danish Black Metal project Afsky and the German scene legend Nargaroth. The Dutch Death Metal band God Dethroned brings classic heaviness, while Thyrfing represents Pagan Metal from Sweden, and Hulder represents the younger Black Metal generation.
