The Blockland is a unique feature of the state of Bremen: with around 3,000 hectares, it is Bremen's largest contiguous agricultural area – a vast marshland crisscrossed by ditches in the north of the city, where farmsteads and a village atmosphere still exist today. It's jokingly referred to as Bremen's largest and smallest district: a village on the outskirts of the big city. It is precisely here that the Blocklander Hobby Kunst Markt invites you to the village community center once a year. In the hall, barn, bakehouse, and courtyard, hobby artists and craftspeople present their handmade unique items – a charming market, far from the hustle and bustle of the city center.

Cozy and Pre-Christmas

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., you'll find a diverse selection of high-quality creative works in the festively decorated hall, as well as in the barn and bakehouse: woodwork, ceramics, candles, bags, photographs, calendars, jewelry, Tiffany glass, teddy bears, children's books, as well as sewn, knitted, felted, and embroidered items. Christmas floristry, cookies, and liqueurs are also on offer. Tables and chairs invite visitors to linger over coffee and homemade cake at the stalls, while the bistro Bremer Stadtmusikanten provides hearty dishes in the courtyard. This makes a visit to the market a cozy afternoon in Bremen's north.

Village Tradition on the Outskirts of the City

The Blockland has preserved its rural character – a rarity so close to a major city. The Blockland village community keeps the marsh village's club life alive: besides the Hobby Kunst Markt in November, the green meadow at the community center transforms once a year in September for the Blockland Party with vintage car meet, draft horses, and activities for the whole family. The Hobby Kunst Markt continues this tradition as a neighborhood festival and makes the rural heritage tangible for visitors from all over Bremen.

Atmosphere and Audience

The atmosphere is warm and relaxed: families, arts and crafts enthusiasts, and day-trippers from all over the Hanseatic city make their way to the marshland, often by bicycle along the dike paths. Admission is free – a down-to-earth, pre-Christmas experience in one of the last village corners of the state of Bremen.
