Traditional parade of the three Ahrweiler Schützengesellschaften on Trinity Sunday
The Historical Schützenfest Ahrweiler is jointly organised by the three Schützengesellschaften of the old town: St. Laurentius-Junggesellen, St. Sebastianus-Bürger-Schützengesellschaft, and Aloisius-Jugend. Each association maintains its own traditions, uniforms, and insignia; together they organise the Schützenfest as the central club event of the year in Ahrweiler.
The festival tent at the Ahrtor car park is the centrepiece of the four festival days. Ceremonial evenings, concerts, the Schützenball (shooting ball), and social club life take place here. On Saturday, the tent opens at 11 am, followed by the traditional Schützenball at 8 pm. The mix of club ceremonies, dance music, and festive atmosphere defines the character of the festival.
The highlight for many visitors is the historical parade, which leads the Schützengesellschaften with banner bearers, flag throwers, music bands, and friendly clubs through the old town of Ahrweiler. The route runs along the medieval main axes, past the city gates and across the market square. In the narrow alleys, dense scenes emerge where tradition and established city history form a unity.
The ceremonial shooting on Thursday opens the festive part of the programme. Throughout the weekend, the doors of the clubhouses and shooting ranges are open; the three associations hold internal ceremonies, crown shooting kings, and celebrate anniversaries.
The festival days combine club ceremonies with public programme parts. Highlights include the parade, the ceremonial evenings of the three Schützengesellschaften, and the grand Schützenball on Saturday evening.
The complete 2026 programme schedule will be published by the organiser in advance at bsg-aw.de. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
