About Wörther Kerb

The Wörther Kerb is the annual Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of the town of Wörth am Main in the Bavarian district of Miltenberg. Over a September weekend, the Gewerbering Wörth a.Main e.V. transforms the town center into a market with handmade products, regional specialties, and culinary delights, complemented by carousels, game stalls, and live entertainment – traditionally combined with a Sunday shopping day.

What Makes the Wörther Kerb Special

The Wörther Kerb is the Kirchweih (church consecration festival; in the Untermain dialect »Kerb«, further south often »Kärwa«, in Württemberg »Kirbe«) of the Lower Franconian town of Wörth am Main. Unlike purely village-based Kirchweihen, the Wörther Kerb is closely linked to local retail: the organizer is not the parish council, but the Gewerbering Wörth a.Main e.V. – an association of local businesses. This shapes its character: a mix of market, Kirchweih, and a town center festival weekend with Sunday shopping.

Market Area with Crafts and Regional Products

The market area around the market square is the centerpiece: handmade products – ceramics, wood crafts, textiles, jewelry – combined with regional specialties from the Untermain region (Spundekäs, apple cider, Franconian wines, regional sausages). This is where the Kerb gains its character as a "real" Kirchweih, beyond mere showman routine.

Family Program and Carousels

Complementing the market area, carousels and game stalls are spread throughout the town center, supplemented by performances from local clubs, small bands, and – depending on the program – a live stage evening on Saturday. The Kerb explicitly sees itself as a family experience: not a large Volksfest with tent revelry until 1 AM, but a manageable, intergenerational town festival.

Sunday Shopping Day

The traditional Sunday shopping day is the organizational heart: Wörth's retailers open their shops, making the Kerb a town-wide center day for decades and demonstrating the connection between the Kirchweih and the local economy. The town of Wörth a.Main rightly lists the Kerb as one of the central town festivals in its annual program.

Location on the Main River, Miltenberg District

Wörth am Main is located in the Untermain valley at the mouth of the Erfbach river into the Main, in the Miltenberg district (Bavaria), not far from Aschaffenburg. The town has around 5,000 inhabitants and is part of the Churfranken / Bayerischer Untermain tourism region. The Wörther Kerb thus fits into the series of Lower Franconian September festivals, but is more of a town center market than a tent-based Volksfest.

Wörther Kerb — edition 2026

The Wörther Kerb 2026 falls on the last September weekend (September 26–28). The town of Wörth a.Main and the Gewerbering Wörth have confirmed the date; the focus will be on the market area, carousels, culinary offerings, and the Sunday shopping day on September 27.

The town of Wörth a.Main designates the "last weekend in September" as the fixed date for the Wörther Kerb – accordingly, September 26–28 in 2026. The Gewerbering Wörth a.Main e.V., as the organizer, is preparing the market area, seeking stallholders for craft and food stands via its online registration form, and coordinating market regulations.

The choreography of the Kerb has been stable for years: opening on Saturday, a full festival day on Sunday with Sunday shopping, and a quiet closing on Monday. Specific performances and stall assignments will be announced in the weeks leading up to the festival on gewerbering-woerth.de and in the local media (Main-Echo).
