A Karlstadt Concert Tradition for Over 30 Years
The concert series Music in Historic Houses and Courtyards has been a fixture in the cultural calendar of Karlstadt am Main for over three decades. Stadtmarketing Karlstadt presents several concerts each season at various locations – usually on the first weekend in July. The unique aspect: the venues are not classical concert halls, but historic inner courtyards, medieval buildings, and well-kept gardens within the old town.
Venues within the Karlstadt City Walls
The series utilizes the unique architectural heritage of Karlstadt's old town: the Altes Pumpenhaus in Rohrbach, the inner courtyard of the Karlstadt Police Inspectorate, the Fischerplatz on the Main river, the Jahnanlage with its Main panorama, the Ehrenhain in the lower Stadtgraben, or, in case of uncertain weather, the Bürgersaal in the historic town hall. Each location offers its own acoustics and atmosphere – the choice of venue is an integral part of the program concept.
Diverse Musical Selection
Programmatically, the series bridges classical and popular music: Classical chamber music (e.g., the CelloDuo Leo Stoll & Elias Hauth from Wiesbaden in 2024), pop and a cappella (Eddi Hüneke, founding member of the Wise Guys, in 2024; the ensemble Berlin´s 4 in 2025), boogie-woogie (Boogielicious in 2024), or folk and jazz – Stadtmarketing opts for varied seasons with nationally acclaimed acts.
Town on the Main with Franconian Character
Karlstadt is located on the right bank of the Main river in the Main-Spessart district, about 30 km north of Würzburg. The well-preserved old town with its city walls, town hall, and half-timbered houses provides the ideal backdrop for a concert series that draws its charm from the combination of music, architecture, and Franconian summer ambiance.
Organizers and Advance Ticket Sales
The series is organized by Stadtmarketing Karlstadt, with offices at Zum Helfenstein 2. Tickets are available online via access-tickets.de and eventfrog.de, as well as through the Karlstadt Tourist Information Office. The program for 2026 will be released by Stadtmarketing Karlstadt in the spring.
