Summer Fair of the Volunteer Fire Brigade
Fire brigade festivals have a long and cherished tradition in Rhineland-Palatinate. In almost every Mosel village, the local brigades organize an annual summer festival, the proceeds of which flow into the maintenance of equipment, youth work, and the club life of the fire brigade. The Julikirmes of the FFW Bullay follows this tradition and has established itself over the years as a convivial meeting place for locals, weekend guests, and Mosel tourists.
The festival grounds in Bullay are centrally located and easily accessible by car as well as by train (Umweltbahnhof Bullay). The erected festival tent offers ample space for several hundred guests in any weather. For three days, changing bands from the region play – from cover bands and dance orchestras to early morning 'Frühschoppen' music groups.
Culinary, the Julikirmes relies on proven classics: 'Schwenkbraten' (marinated pork neck) from the open grill, bratwurst, fries, and hearty dishes from regional cuisine. For wine, the Bullay Riesling from the 'Brautrock' vineyard is a staple, along with Pilsner on tap and summer wine spritzers ('Sommerschorlen').
The firefighters themselves are the heart of the festival. They perform all tasks voluntarily – from setup and dismantling to catering and stage technology. Those who visit the Julikirmes support the preservation of an institution essential for rural safety with every beer and every 'Schwenkbraten'.
The Julikirmes 2026 extends from Friday, July 10th, to Sunday, July 12th. The festival tent opens on Friday evening, and on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, it opens in the late afternoon. The organizer is the Volunteer Fire Brigade Bullay, whose comrades organize and conduct the festival on a voluntary basis.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Volunteer Fire Brigade Bullay in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Highlights: Three days of festival tent with live music, 'Schwenkbraten' from the open grill, Mosel wines from the Bullay 'Brautrock' vineyard, Sunday 'Frühschoppen' with brass music, raffle and family program, support for the Volunteer Fire Brigade through festival attendance.
Free admission. Food and drinks available on site.
Getting there: By train to Bullay (Umweltbahnhof). By car via the B49 or B259, parking in the town center.
Admission: Free. Food, drinks, and raffle tickets are paid for on site.
Tip: By visiting the festival, you directly support the Volunteer Fire Brigade Bullay – a good reason for an extra glass of Riesling or a 'Schwenkbraten'.
