Market with Pilgrimage Tradition

The Bickesheimer Markt dates back to the centuries-old pilgrimage to Bickesheim — Maria Bickesheim, the pilgrimage church on the outskirts of Durmersheim, attracted pilgrims as early as the Middle Ages. Market activities have always accompanied the pilgrimage. Today, the Bickesheimer Markt is one of the most important spring markets in the Rastatt district (Baden-Württemberg) — the start of the market season after winter, a mix of funfair, trade exhibition, and family festival.

Four Days of Events

From Saturday, March 28, to Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the market will take place at Bickesheimer Platz. Carousels and bumper cars provide a Volksfest (traditional folk festival) atmosphere, with a children's carousel being a focal point for families. Snack and drink stands offer classic market fare. In addition, traders present fashionable leather goods, candied almonds, herbs, and spices — a typical repertoire of the regional spring market style.

Craft Market in Parallel

From Saturday to Tuesday, a craft market runs parallel to the funfair — blacksmiths, basket weavers, potters, and other regional artisans showcase their work. The combination of a funfair and a craft market is a special feature of the Bickesheimer Markt, distinguishing it from purely commercial folk festivals.

Sunday Shopping and Flea Markets

On Sunday, March 29, 2026, Durmersheim's shops will open parallel to the market from 1 PM to 6 PM — the Sunday shopping event organized by the Interessengemeinschaft Selbständiger und Gewerbetreibender (ISG). Additionally, a children's flea market starts from Engelstraße, where children can offer used toys for free, seamlessly followed by a flea market for adults.

Durmersheim in the Rastatt District

Durmersheim is a municipality with around 12,600 inhabitants in the Rastatt district, on the edge of the Rhine Valley between Karlsruhe and Baden-Baden. Known for the pilgrimage church Maria Bickesheim and Durmersheim Castle, the town is firmly anchored in the Upper Rhine spring market tradition. The market annually attracts visitors from the entire Karlsruhe region.
