A City Celebrates Since 1992
The Eschweiler Music Festival (EMF) has been the central open-air event in the city of Eschweiler in the Aachen region since 1992. Three days of market square stage, international headliners, regional cover bands, free admission – this is the format that has made the festival one of NRW's most popular city festivals. Over 10,000 visitors per edition, an amazing ratio for a city with just under 56,000 inhabitants.
Dates 2026 – June 19th to 21st
The 34th edition runs from Friday, June 19th to Sunday, June 21st, 2026. The festival motto: 'EMF Alaaf!' – a curious summer Carnival homage staged around the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Program – The Three Festival Days
- Friday, June 19th, 2026 – Opening: The main stage opens with Michael Schulte – Germany's Eurovision representative in 2018 with 'You Let Me Walk Alone'. Schulte has since risen to become a fixture on the German pop scene. Opening concert with a full band.
- Saturday, June 20th, 2026 – 'EMF Alaaf!' Main Evening: The headliners are Cologne's Brings – one of the most successful Kölsch rock bands ('Superjeile Zick', 'Kölsche Jung'). Afterwards, the World Cup Public Viewing of the match Germany vs. Côte d'Ivoire will be shown on the market square – the city calls this 'WM Alaaf'.
- Sunday, June 21st, 2026: Family day with regional bands, cover bands, and a pub crawl connection in Eschweiler's pubs.
Connected Pub Crawl
A tradition of the EMF: After the concerts, the festival continues with a pub crawl in the pubs of Eschweiler's old town – live music in several bars and restaurants. An extension of the festival beyond the main stage.
Past Stars and Festival DNA
Over the years, the EMF has hosted a remarkable list of international acts: Anastacia, Status Quo, The Blues Brothers, Candy Dulfer, and many more. The constant: free admission, financed by sponsorship from the local economy. This has established the EMF as the largest free city festival in the Aachen region.
Eschweiler – City in the Aachen Region
Eschweiler is located about 15 km east of Aachen, has 56,000 inhabitants, and is part of the Aachen region. The city is traditionally a mining and industrial center; today, it is known for its vibrant city center and the EMF.
Organization – Max Krieger
Cultural manager Max Krieger has been organizing the festival for the Eschweiler city administration since 2002 – remarkable continuity that explains the programmatic consistency. Sponsored by Sparkasse Aachen, Stadtwerke Eschweiler, and local companies.
