Premiere of the joint Wine and City Festival in Eschweiler from May 29th to 31st, 2026
The Wein- und Stadtfest Eschweiler is the premiere of a new event series: In 2026, the city of Eschweiler is merging its popular wine festival with the Spring City Festival into a single, three-day major event. The organizers are the city administration and the Eschweiler City Management; the positive response to the previous wine festival edition was the trigger for the merger.
At the heart of the festival is Uferstraße with five German winemakers, as well as a French cheese market as a culinary addition. Opening hours: Friday 6–11 PM, Saturday 4–11 PM, Sunday 1–7 PM. Here, tastings, live music, and Eschweiler festival culture combine.
Parallel to the wine festival on Uferstraße, the city festival spreads across the entire city center — Auerbachcenter, Wasserwiese, and Hauptstraße. Program items include: carousels and rides for children, a street chalk drawing competition, stage music with local and national acts, and street food stalls.
A special initiative by the city of Eschweiler: Sunday is designated as the Day of Diversity and Inclusion. In the Villa Faensen, a historic building in the city center, activities, workshops, and meeting formats will take place — a clear signal for diversity as a value. In parallel, the city center opens for the Sunday shopping event.
Eschweiler is a medium-sized town with almost 56,000 inhabitants in the Aachen region, located between Aachen and Düren. Characterized by its industrial history (ironworks, mining) and the Inde valley landscape, the city is increasingly developing into an event location. The premiere of the combined Wine and City Festival is an important step in this direction.
The 2026 premiere marks a cultural-political breakthrough in Eschweiler: the city and city management have merged the two previously separate festivals to achieve a greater impact on city center frequency, gastronomy, and city marketing.
The weekend is designed as a major open-air event for the whole family. While Uferstraße sets the wine festival character with five German winemakers and a French cheese market, Auerbachcenter, Wasserwiese, and Hauptstraße take over the classic city festival elements: stages, carousels, street food. Sunday, with the Day of Diversity and Inclusion at Villa Faensen, forms a special highlight.
