160 Years of Music Association Wald — District Music Festival with Troglauer and Festival Parade
The District Music Festival in Wald (Hohenzollern) – a district of the town of Meßstetten in the Zollernalb district (state of Baden-Württemberg) – is doubly significant in 2026: It is both the official district event of the Brass Music Association and the anniversary celebration of the Musikverein Wald, which is celebrating its 160th anniversary. From July 17th to 20th, 2026, four days of festival tent program, parades, and major concerts are planned.
Two popular bands will shape the musical program in the festival tent:
On Sunday morning, a festive church service will be held in the Wald church, musically accompanied by the Sauldorf-Wald Youth Orchestra, a cooperative formation of the two music associations. This puts the youth work of southern German brass music in the spotlight – a cause particularly important to the Musikverein Wald.
The absolute highlight of the festival is the grand parade on Sunday, July 19th, 2026, at 2 PM. Hundreds of musicians, traditional costume groups, associations, and floats will march through Wald – a colorful, festive demonstration of the brass music culture of the Zollernalb district and surrounding regions.
Classic elements of a district music festival are not missing:
The festival is the official district event of the Blasmusikverband Zollernalb e.V. – bringing together music associations from the entire Zollernalb district (Albstadt, Hechingen, Bisingen, Balingen, Burladingen, and surrounding areas). A gathering of southern German brass music culture in its full spectrum.
The district of Wald belongs to the town of Meßstetten (~10,500 inhabitants) in the southern Zollernalb district. It is characterized by its rural location on the Swabian Jura foothills with scattered orchards, mixed forests, and small farms. The Musikverein Wald has been an anchor of village life since 1866 – the 160th anniversary in 2026 shows how enduring brass music culture is in the southern German province.
From July 17th to 20th, 2026, the Musikverein Wald will celebrate its 160th anniversary with the official district music festival of the Zollernalb Brass Music Association. Four days of festivities in the large festival tent will bring together music associations from across the region and stars of the southern German folk music scene. The headliners are Die Troglauer (medieval folk-rock) and Walter Grechenig & seine Fegerländer (Bohemian brass music meets big band). On Sunday morning, the community will celebrate a Festival Service, musically accompanied by the Sauldorf-Wald Youth Orchestra. At 2 PM, the Grand Parade will start with hundreds of participants – musicians, traditional costume groups, and floats from the Zollernalb district and beyond. An alphorn serenade and a joint concert of all participating musicians will round off the festival weekend. Tickets exclusively online via vereinsticket.de.
