Four Days of District Music Festival for the 160th Anniversary

The District Music Festival in Wald (Hohenzollern) – a district of the town of Meßstetten in the Zollernalb district (state of Baden-Württemberg) – is doubly significant in 2026: It is both the official district event of the Brass Music Association and the anniversary celebration of the Musikverein Wald, which is celebrating its 160th anniversary. From July 17th to 20th, 2026, four days of festival tent program, parades, and major concerts are planned.

Headliners: Troglauer and Walter Grechenig & seine Fegerländer

Two popular bands will shape the musical program in the festival tent:

• Die Troglauer — A medieval folk-rock band characterized by drums, bagpipes, and multi-part vocals. Their live performances are energetic and captivating.
• Walter Grechenig & seine Fegerländer — An exceptional band that combines top-level Bohemian concert brass music with modern big band hit sounds. Walter Grechenig is one of the most prominent figures in the southern German brass music scene.

Festival Service and Youth Orchestra

On Sunday morning, a festive church service will be held in the Wald church, musically accompanied by the Sauldorf-Wald Youth Orchestra, a cooperative formation of the two music associations. This puts the youth work of southern German brass music in the spotlight – a cause particularly important to the Musikverein Wald.

Festival Parade on Sunday

The absolute highlight of the festival is the grand parade on Sunday, July 19th, 2026, at 2 PM. Hundreds of musicians, traditional costume groups, associations, and floats will march through Wald – a colorful, festive demonstration of the brass music culture of the Zollernalb district and surrounding regions.

Alphorn and Joint Concert

Classic elements of a district music festival are not missing:

• Alphorn Serenade — Alpine soundscapes that have been part of southern German festival culture for centuries.
• Festival Flag Ceremony — A solemn ritual of honor.
• Joint Concert — All participating musicians play a common piece together (several hundred musicians on one stage).

District Event of the Brass Music Association

The festival is the official district event of the Blasmusikverband Zollernalb e.V. – bringing together music associations from the entire Zollernalb district (Albstadt, Hechingen, Bisingen, Balingen, Burladingen, and surrounding areas). A gathering of southern German brass music culture in its full spectrum.

Wald — District in the Southern Swabian Jura Foothills

The district of Wald belongs to the town of Meßstetten (~10,500 inhabitants) in the southern Zollernalb district. It is characterized by its rural location on the Swabian Jura foothills with scattered orchards, mixed forests, and small farms.
