Bullentäle — Cult Course of German Mountain Biking
The Bullentäle above Albstadt's district of Burgfelden has been one of Germany's defining cross-country courses for decades. Roots, steep sections, fast trails through the Black Forest foothills, a technical challenge that demands real bikers – and a landmark for Albstadt as the Bike Capital of the Swabian Jura. Here, the RSG Zollern-Alb has been hosting the Albstadt MTB Classic for years, traditionally at the end of September.
Three-Day Race Weekend
From September 25th to 27th, 2026, the MTB Classic will be a packed race weekend. The rider paddock in Bullentäle opens on Friday, with training laps on the course available. Saturday features the youth races U7 to U19 – from the youngest Bambini classes through the growing school and youth categories up to U19. Decisions will be made in the German junior series, including the German Championship U15 and U17 as the final points race. Sunday features the Team Race 2h: a two-hour format for club teams and hobby combinations, ideal for newcomers.
Course and Technical Profile
The course runs in several laps through the Bullentäle and over the Burgfelder Höhe. Key sections include the narrow root passage at the start, the steep section "Burgfelder Stich," and the fast descent back into the valley. Course length varies between 2.5 km (U7) and around 5 km (Team Race) per lap, depending on the class. The pit area and finish line are located directly in Bullentäle, with short distances for riders, support staff, and spectators.
Albstadt — Bike Capital of the Swabian Jura
Albstadt in the Zollernalb district (AGS 08417) has made a name for itself as the German Mountain Bike Capital with the 2020 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships and several UCI World Cup stops. The Bike Arena Albstadt is among the most densely marked MTB trail networks in Central Europe – over 60 tours around the districts of Ebingen, Tailfingen, Lautlingen, and Onstmettingen. The Albstadt MTB Classic uses the Bullentäle section of this network, firmly anchored in the national race calendar.
Spectators and Atmosphere
Admission is free – you can follow the races directly from the course edge. Catering from the club tent (chicken, Swabian Maultaschen, cake, coffee, regional drinks), bike wash, material stands from local dealers. Family-friendly atmosphere: While the little ones complete their first race lap, parents chat about tire compounds and suspension travel settings.
