Burscheid — Dance Hub in the Bergisches Land

Burscheid is a town in the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis (Cologne district) with around 18,000 inhabitants, located between Leverkusen and Wermelskirchen in the Bergisches Land region. The KulturForumBurscheid at Höhestraße 5 is the town's central event venue — a modern hall with a stage, spectator seating, and extensive changing room facilities, well-suited for dance competitions of this scale.

The Bergische Tanztage — Concept Since 2019

Founded in 2019 by the Ballettschule Modern Movement from Wermelskirchen and the cultural association Burscheid Live e.V., the Bergische Tanztage has become a fixed date in the German amateur dance calendar. The competitions judge solos, duos, trios, and groups — from small Mini Kids solo performances to 20-member adult show formations. The jury consists of experienced professionals from the dance world (dance educators, choreographers, former stage dancers).

2026 Program — Saturday and Sunday

Saturday, February 7th, 2026 — Classical, Folklore, and Lyrical

  • Folklore and National Dance — Folk dance formations from various cultures
  • Classical Ballet — on pointe and in character shoes
  • Modern/Contemporary — contemporary movement language
  • Jazz Dance — choreographies between Broadway and Contemporary Jazz
  • Lyrical Dance — emotional, narrative movements to lyrical music pieces

Sunday, February 8th, 2026 — HipHop, Showdance, and Open

  • HipHop & Streetdance — from Old School to Urban Choreography
  • Showdance — stage-effective mixed forms with acrobatics and choreography
  • Open Category — all styles are allowed, free choice for choreographers

The competitions run daily from 8 AM to 9 PM in variable formats (solo, duo, trio, group). The order and times will be published about two weeks in advance on the organizer's website.

Four Age Groups — Mini Kids to Adults

Dancers compete against each other in four age groups:

  • Mini Kids: up to 8 years old
  • Kids: 9-12 years old
  • Juniors: 13-15 years old
  • Adults: 16 years and older

This strict age division ensures fair judging — the jury assesses technique, synchronicity, expression, choreographic quality, and stage presence separately for each age group.

800 Dancers and 500 Registrations

With around 500 registrations (solos + groups) and over 800 active dancers, the Bergische Tanztage is one of the largest amateur dance competitions in North Rhine-Westphalia. Many participants travel from Southern Germany — explicitly including from Bavaria — which demonstrates the supra-regional significance of the Burscheid event.

Prices and Tickets

Tickets are available exclusively at the box office on the day of the event (no advance sale):

  • Day Ticket: €25
  • Block Ticket (Partial Program): €12
  • Children under 10 years: half price

Catering is provided on-site — snacks, drinks, coffee, light meals. The audience traditionally consists largely of families, dance schools, and fellow trainers of the participating dancers.

Getting to Burscheid

By car via the A 1 (Burscheid exit) — parking around the KulturForum, often scarce on major competition days. By public transport: Bus lines 250 and 261 (Wupsi) stop directly at Höhestraße, connecting to Leverkusen Main Station (S-Bahn S6) and Wermelskirchen.

Bergische Tanztage — edition 2026

The 2026 Bergische Tanztage take place on February 7th and 8th at the KulturForumBurscheid. With around 500 registrations and over 800 dancers from all over Germany, it's one of the largest amateur dance competitions in NRW. Saturday: Folklore, Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Lyrical Dance. Sunday: HipHop & Streetdance, Showdance, Open. Four age groups: Mini Kids/Kids/Juniors/Adults. Organizers: Ballettschule Modern Movement and Burscheid Live e.V. Day ticket €25.

Bergische Tanztage 2026 — 7th Edition

The 2026 edition builds on the established structure of previous years: two days of competition at the KulturForumBurscheid, four age groups, eight disciplines, and an experienced jury of professionals. With dancers from all over Germany — many explicitly from Bavaria — the Tanztage have become a truly supra-regional platform for ambitious amateur dancers.

The daily competitions run from 8 AM to 9 PM. The order of choreographies and performances will be published about two weeks before the competition on the Burscheid-Live website.
