Small, romantic Christmas market on three Advent weekends
The Burscheid Christmas Market proudly bears the charming title „Ä Tännschen Please!" — a local variation of the English „Attention Please!", which perfectly captures the market's family-friendly atmosphere. Unlike the large Christmas markets in the Rhineland (Cologne, Düsseldorf, Aachen), Burscheid deliberately focuses on being small and romantic. In 2026, the market is expected to run on the first three Advent weekends — approximately November 28 to December 14, 2026.
The festive backdrop is the area at Engelrath 3 in Burscheid's old town — a historic courtyard with half-timbered character that shapes the market's intimate atmosphere. Here, the organizer sets up cozy heated huts, bearing charming local Bergisches names: Ulla, Hilde, Trudi, and Wilma. Each hut can accommodate up to 10 people — perfect meeting points for families and friends on cold Advent days.
The culinary offerings focus on local Bergisches classics:
The exhibitors offer:
Two special features enhance the market experience: A writing station at the Christkind — where children can write their wish lists — and a scavenger hunt game with prizes, making the market an interactive family experience.
From the second Advent weekend onwards, fresh Christmas trees from the Mütherich Tree Nursery will be sold on-site. A central social component is the lottery for the benefit of the Child Protection Association — in 2024, it raised around €4,700, which went to local child protection projects.
Burscheid is a town of about 18,000 inhabitants in the Rheinisch-Bergisches district in North Rhine-Westphalia, located in the Bergisches Land region between Leverkusen and Wuppertal. The town combines rural Bergisches tradition with proximity to the Rhineland. The Christmas market utilizes this identity: small, cozy, with local relevance. It's not a mega-market for tourists, but a meeting place for local residents — and that's precisely what makes it a charming insider tip for visitors.
For three Advent weekends, the courtyard at Engelrath 3 transforms into a compact, atmospheric Christmas market with a Bergisches identity. Heated huts with the charming names Ulla, Hilde, Trudi, and Wilma offer shelter from the Advent cold.
