Spring Volksfest on Frascatiplatz with carousels, spring produce, and Hamburg district atmosphere
Frascatiplatz is located in the heart of Bergedorf-Zentrum, the historic core of Hamburg's easternmost district. Named after Bergedorf's "Tivoli" – a 19th-century leisure park – it now serves as the central festival meadow for the district's recurring market dates. In spring, summer, and autumn, the WAGS team sets up carousels, booths, and stalls, with Bergedorf's shops also integrated into the market.
The spring market features classic Volksfest elements: a children's carousel, dodgems, a mini Ferris wheel, candy floss, and gingerbread hearts, a shooting gallery, and a carousel with horses. Alongside these are plant stalls offering flowers, strawberries, and spring vegetables from the Vier- und Marschlande region, the district's horticultural hinterland. Snack stalls offer bratwurst, fish sandwiches, fries, crêpes, and sweets.
For Bergedorf families, the spring market is one of the first events of the open-air season. With school holidays at the end of April / beginning of May, it regularly falls during a time when children can be easily planned for. The market format is accessible, admission is low (free), and the atmosphere is familiar. In Bergedorf, the market is the third of the three regular dates, alongside the summer festival on Bergedorfer Marktplatz and the Bergedorfer Herbstmarkt (autumn market).
In Hamburg's festival calendar, the Bergedorfer Frühjahrsmarkt is one of the classic district fairs, with no tourist ambitions. It belongs to the series of recurring district Volksfeste with which Hamburg's individual districts cultivate their local identity – similar to the Wandsbeker Marktplatz-Fest, the Eppendorfer Landstraßenfest, or the Tibargfest in Niendorf.
The 2026 edition continues the established program format: five market days, continuously from 10 am to 10 pm, with classic Volksfest attractions on Frascatiplatz. The carousel has become a landmark over the years, complemented by dodgems, a shooting gallery, gingerbread hearts, and candy floss.
Seasonally, spring flowers, the first strawberries from the Marschlande harvest, and spring vegetables are available at the market stalls. The market extends from Frascatiplatz into the Bergedorf pedestrian zone, allowing local shops and restaurants to also benefit from the visitors.
Specific stage performances (occasional small live music on weekends) will be announced on wags-hamburg.de.
