Classical season in eastern Hamburg
The Bergedorfer Musiktage is not a compact festival week, but an entire season. Since 2002, the series has spread its concerts over several months — typically from April to November — across historical venues in the Bergedorf district. 2026 is the 24th season, organized by the Bergedorfer Musiktage Foundation under the direction of Dr. Farhang Logmani and his wife Sigrid, with conductor Mike Steurenthaler as musical partner.
The KörberHaus on Holzhude has been the new cultural center of Bergedorf and the central venue for the series since 2023. Bergedorf Castle, a 13th-century moated castle, complements the series with concerts in a historic setting. The Sankt-Petri-und-Pauli Church and the Marienkirche in the town center offer a sacred atmosphere for sacred works. Outside of Bergedorf, individual concerts also take place in the Elbphilharmonie. A special highlight: concerts on the historic grounds of the Hamburg Observatory, combined with astronomical programs.
The 24th season spans a wide range: Baroque music from Bach to Scarlatti, classical works from Haydn to Mozart, plus romantic compositions. It opens with Mozart's Requiem on Pentecost Sunday, May 10, 2026, at 6 PM in the Sankt-Petri-und-Pauli Church. The finale is a three-day guest performance by the John Neumeier Ballet at the KörberHaus from November 18 to 20. During the season, two literary readings are planned focusing on Hamburg personalities — Loki Schmidt and Joachim Ringelnatz, who lived in Bergedorf for a time.
Bergedorf-Zentrum is the historical heart of Hamburg's easternmost district. The close concentration of historical buildings (Castle, Sankt-Petri-und-Pauli, Marienkirche, KörberHaus) makes the district one of Hamburg's most distinctive concentrations of classical venues. The Musiktage have consistently developed this quality over two decades, establishing the civic district of Bergedorf as a classical destination.
Over six months, the program for the 24th season is spread across around 15 concerts and one play. In May, Mozart's Requiem opens the season in one of Hamburg's oldest sacred spaces. The summer weeks bring Baroque programs and concerts at the historic Observatory. In the autumn, the KörberHaus takes over with the three-day Neumeier Ballet guest performance to conclude.
During the season, two literary readings will take place focusing on Hamburg figures: Loki Schmidt — wife of former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, both from Hamburg — and Joachim Ringelnatz, the poet and painter who lived in Bergedorf for a time. The connection between music and literature underscores the series' desire to bring classical culture to the district.
Mozart's Requiem to open in Bergedorf's main church, Neumeier Ballet guest performance to close, concerts at the historic Observatory.
