Premiere – 1st Bayreuth Bicycle Festival to kick off the cycling season
With the 1st Bayreuth Bicycle Festival, the Wagner city will have its own format to kick off the cycling season on March 29, 2026. The event is organized by LINY Bikes (Tim LINY) together with the Transitionhaus Bayreuth. The festival is aimed at people from the region who are interested in everyday bicycle mobility – from commuting to family mobility to inclusive mobility solutions.
On the 4,000 m² grounds of the former Nagel factory at Seestraße 19 – a charming industrial loft location in eastern Bayreuth – exhibitors, initiatives, and clubs will be present. Visitors can test various types of bicycles: cargo bikes for everyday family life, e-bikes, mountain bikes for the nearby Franconian Switzerland, touring bikes, folding bikes for commuters, recumbent bikes, including mobility aids such as handbikes or tandems for blind people.
The program includes advice on everyday bicycle mobility, presentations by regional transport initiatives, a used bike exchange market (private individuals can bring, buy, and sell), and a children's program. The Transitionhaus – Bayreuth's real-world laboratory for sustainable lifestyles – will offer fresh coffee and waffles.
As a prelude to the Bicycle Festival, the film screening »Cycling Cities« will be shown on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Transitionhaus, Schulstraße 7. In his documentary, director Ingwar Perowanowitsch portrays some of Europe's most bicycle-friendly cities (Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Seville, etc.). Starts at 8:00 p.m., doors open at 7:00 p.m.
Bayreuth, with around 75,000 inhabitants, is not only the Wagner Festival city in summer but also home to the University of Bayreuth, a regional administrative center, and the gateway to Franconian Switzerland and the Fichtelgebirge. In recent years, the city has strongly emphasized bicycle mobility – with new bike paths, its own cycling concept, and membership in the alliance of urban climate communities. The Bicycle Festival marks a visible milestone in this development.
The premiere has been confirmed by the Bayreuther Tagblatt (press release February 2026), the Wiesentbote, MainWelle (Upper Franconia radio), the official inbayreuth.de site (Tourism Bayreuth), as well as LINY Bikes as the organizer. The format targets everyday cyclists from Upper Franconia and Franconian Switzerland who want to get information about current bicycle developments and try out bikes.
On the festival grounds, exhibitors will present cargo bikes, e-bikes, folding bikes, touring bikes, and inclusive mobility aids. Regional initiatives (ADFC Bayreuth, Critical Mass Bayreuth, City of Bayreuth's Climate Protection Management) and supra-regional players will also be present. The Transitionhaus – established as a real-world laboratory for sustainable lifestyles in Bayreuth – will serve visitors coffee and waffles.
