Multi-genre classical festival in historic venues – "Classical music enlivens!"
Musica Bayreuth is one of Upper Franconia's established classical festivals. In 2026, it celebrates its 65th season – a special year, as the Bayreuth Festival also celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2026. The festival sees itself not as a dusty concert series, but lives its motto: "Classical music enlivens!".
The program utilizes several outstanding venues in Bayreuth: the Margravial Opera House (UNESCO World Heritage, one of Europe's most beautiful Baroque theaters), the idyllic Fantaisie Palace with its park, and the modern Friedrichsforum. Each venue lends its concerts a unique character.
Musica Bayreuth consciously offers a multi-genre program: operas, orchestral concerts, chamber music, organ matinees, and a cappella programs. Performers include the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic and the renowned Windsbach Boys Choir. Student concerts on topics such as program music and contemporary crossover genres complement the educational program.
The special productions are particularly noteworthy: Wagner Circus – a dance and acrobatics production inspired by Tristan and Isolde at the Friedrichsforum; Suddenly Walküre! – a festival revue about what it's like to participate in Wagner's works; and Opera in Bavarian – an unconventional introduction to the Ring cycle with cabaret artists at the Margravial Opera House. In this way, the festival makes classical music, and especially Wagner, experienceable in new ways.
Bayreuth in Upper Franconia is world-famous as the city of Wagner. Alongside the Bayreuth Festival, Musica Bayreuth shapes the musical life of the city – with a program that combines historical settings with lively, often surprising programming.
