Kerwa Tradition in Baunach
The Baunach Kirchweih is one of the fixed summer dates in the Bamberg district in the state of Bavaria. "Kerwa" – as the Kirchweih is affectionately called in Franconia – is far more than a folk festival here: it combines church tradition, club life, and exuberant conviviality into a four-day celebration that gets the whole town on its feet.
Parade and Kirchweih Tree
The traditional raising of the Kirchweih tree by members of the volunteer fire department marks the start on Friday evening. At 6 p.m., the parade sets off from the fire station – led by the Baunach town band, accompanied by representatives of the town council and local clubs. The Kirchweih tree is erected at the historic Zehntscheune, the atmospheric center of the festivities.
Beer Tent, Taverns, and Amusement Park
Throughout the Kirchweih, local inns offer Franconian specialties and international dishes. FC Baunach operates a beer garden area at the Zehntscheune and the youth center. On the market square, the Fischer amusement park provides rides – during the opening hour from 5 to 6 p.m., rides cost one euro each.
Family Day to Conclude
The Family Afternoon on Monday, with reduced prices for all rides, marks the conclusion – an offer that makes the Kirchweih particularly attractive for families from Baunach and the surrounding area.
A Festival Connecting Generations
With food and drink, music, rides, and well-kept traditions, the Baunach Kirchweih consciously appeals to all generations. It is an authentic example of the vibrant Kirchweih culture in Upper Franconia and a social highlight in the summer calendar of the town of Baunach.
