An entire May dedicated to health in the Staatsbad — over 300 lectures, workshops, markets, and action days in the Lower Franconian spa town
Bad Kissingen, the traditional Staatsbad in Lower Franconia, has been one of Germany's most famous spa towns since the 19th century — Otto von Bismarck was a spa guest, as were Wilhelm I and Empress Sissi. Today, the town is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the "Great Spa Towns of Europe" and remains one of Germany's largest health resorts. The Health Weeks are the annual summer showcase of this spa town's expertise: For four weeks, rehabilitation clinics, therapy centers, sports clubs, pharmacies, and self-help groups open their doors.
The format is deliberately diverse: medical lectures (e.g., on diabetes therapy, cardiovascular prevention, rheumatology), practical workshops (yoga, Nordic walking, breathing techniques), markets (Health Market in the city center), action days (Health & Fitness Action Day), symposia for professionals (physiotherapy, case management rehabilitation). In addition, major sporting events like the "run & fun" race on the tournament grounds on the last day of May.
A selection of key dates: May 2nd — 26th Bad Kissingen Diabetes Day with current updates on diabetes therapy. May 7th — Health Market in the city center: stands from rehabilitation clinics, therapy centers, pharmacies, self-help groups, tastings, practical advice. May 9th-10th — Health lectures and a smaller market. May 20th — Future Forum Rehabilitation: Case Management. May 30th — Physiotherapy Symposium and Vein and Lymph Day. May 31st — "run & fun" race on the tournament grounds as a sporty conclusion.
The Health Weeks are centrally coordinated by the City of Bad Kissingen (Economic Development Agency). A printed program booklet with all 300+ events is distributed in Bad Kissingen and available for download. An online searchable event calendar with all dates, times, and meeting points is also available.
The 2026 motto — "Bad Kissingen bewegt sich" (Bad Kissingen is moving) — encapsulates the event's program: health as active doing, not just treatment. From morning yoga in the Kurgarten to the 5k run on the tournament grounds at the end of the month, May is intended to become a collective initiative for movement — for both the town's residents and the guests of the spa region.
The 2026 edition is confirmed on the official website of the City of Bad Kissingen and the online portal gesundheitswochen.badkissingen.de. A complete program booklet with all 300+ events and a searchable online calendar are available for download or use.
The organizer is the City of Bad Kissingen (Economic Development Agency), contact person Stefanie Maessen. Admission to most events is free; individual symposia and workshops require a moderate fee.
