Advent weekend with mulled wine, stage program, and campfire in the spa town in Saalekreis
When the fairy lights in Bad Dürrenberg Spa Park illuminate on the second Advent weekend, one of the most beautiful smaller Advent events in the southern Saalekreis begins. The Bad Dürrenberg Advent Magic is not a large tourist market, but a community-based local festival: clubs, kindergartens, schools, and the city administration decorate stalls, stock mulled wine stands, organize stage performances, and create an atmosphere where the residents of Bad Dürrenberg celebrate their own town during Advent.
The venue is the historic Spa Park around the graduation tower — with 636 meters in length, one of the longest contiguous graduation towers in Europe and a city landmark. The brine springs, to which Bad Dürrenberg owes its name, shape the city's character; in Advent, fire pits, campfires, a large Christmas tree, and decorated stalls complement the park, creating a small winter stage.
What distinguishes the Advent Magic from many other Christmas markets is its community festival character. Instead of regional showmen, local clubs, the carnival club DCC e.V., the Fröhlich Music School, the city's dance groups, and children's facilities are the focus. The highlight for the youngest visitors is traditionally the children's play "Silli's Christmas Preparations", which is staged anew each year.
Bad Dürrenberg is centrally located between Merseburg, Leipzig, and Weißenfels in Saalekreis. The Advent Magic is well-suited as a half-day destination for families from the greater Halle/Leipzig area — combined with a walk along the graduation tower and a visit to the Borlach Museum, which tells the story of salt extraction.
Small, warm, personal. It smells of mulled wine and roasted almonds, the stage is usually occupied by local dance groups and children's choirs, and neighbors who know each other anyway stand together at the campfires. It is precisely this mix that makes the Bad Dürrenberg Advent Magic one of those festivals in Saxony-Anhalt that nobody advertises much — and which are precisely for that reason particularly authentic.
The 2026 edition will take place as usual on the second Advent weekend. For two days, the spa park will be open with decorated stalls and a stage program — and with the concept that has characterized the Advent Magic for years: clubs, schools, kindergartens, and the city administration jointly organize the market.
The program ranges from musical performances by the Fröhlich Music School and dance performances by DCC e.V. to performances by kindergartens. A highlight for the children is the annual staging of "Silli's Christmas Preparations".
Detailed program with exact times will be published a few weeks before the festival begins on badduerrenberg.de. Program subject to change.
