About Herbstdult Passau

The Passau Autumn Dult is the second major folk festival in the Three Rivers City after the May Dult and traditionally marks the end of the Bavarian festival season. For ten days, the Messepark Kohlbruck grounds transform into a stage of beer tents, the famous DultStadl with around 7,500 seats, amusement rides, and market stalls. Bavarian-Lower Bavarian tradition, a costume parade, Children's Day, and the grand fireworks on Dult Wednesday attract tens of thousands from Passau and the surrounding Lower Bavarian region every year.

From Medieval Market to Grand Folk Festival

The Passau Dult – both the May Dult and the Autumn Dult – historically dates back to a medieval market documented in the Three Rivers City as early as the 13th century. Today, it is one of the largest folk festivals in Lower Bavaria and a central event for the city and district of Passau.

The DultStadl as the Centerpiece

Unlike most Bavarian folk festivals, the Passau Dult is not characterized by a classic beer tent, but by the DultStadl – a permanently installed hall with around 7,500 seats, designed in the style of a Bavarian inn. Traditional costume and party bands play here daily, Lower Bavarian traditional costume groups dance here, and the innkeeping team serves festival beer by the liter.

Folk Festival with Festival Season Character

While the May Dult opens the Lower Bavarian festival season at the end of April / beginning of May, the Autumn Dult closes it at the beginning of September. It is the last major opportunity to experience a Bavarian folk festival before the Munich Oktoberfest – with the charm of a city of 53,000 inhabitants, where you often know the innkeepers and traditional costume groups personally.

Costume Parade & Fireworks

Traditional highlights of the Autumn Dult are the Costume and Marksmen Parade with brass bands on the first weekend and the Dult Fireworks on Dult Wednesday (mid-point). Children's Day with half-price rides and a family program in the DultStadl completes the schedule.

Arrival by Ship

A special feature of Passau: Those arriving from the Upper Austrian Inn or Danube valleys can reach the Dult by ship. The piers are a few minutes' walk from the public transport connection to Messepark Kohlbruck.
