Festival on the Monastery Grounds

The Bad Doberan Town Festival takes place annually on the last weekend of June on the festival meadow at the monastery grounds – one of the most atmospheric venues in the region between the Doberan Minster (brick Gothic, founded 1171) and the medieval water mill on the Klostersee lake. Organised by the Bad Doberan town administration.

Three-Day Programme

Regional and national bands, tribute acts, and folk music ensembles perform on several stages. During the day, the town festival offers children's theatre, magic shows, dance performances by local music schools, and hands-on activities for families; DJ parties follow on Friday and Saturday evenings. Numerous amusement ride operators with carousels, a Ferris wheel, and snack stands, as well as market vendors and caterers, complement the offerings.

Free Admission

The festival grounds are freely accessible; individual rides and food are subject to a charge. The Doberan Town Festival thus positions itself as a community-oriented Volksfest (popular festival) that connects the village community with guests from the spa region.

Regional Context

Bad Doberan is located in the Rostock district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), just a few kilometres from the Baltic Sea resort of Heiligendamm and the Hanseatic city of Rostock. The town is the seat of the bishopric of the Mecklenburg Cistercians and, with the Doberan Minster, one of the most important brick Gothic towns in Northern Germany. The town festival preserves this tradition as a social summer event.
