Market Day in the Rottal

The Bad Birnbach Autumn Market is a classic market day, cultivated in the Lower Bavarian Rottal for generations – combined with the tourist infrastructure of a spa town. The venue is the Neue Marktplatz in the center of the market town of Bad Birnbach, one of Bavaria's oldest thermal spa resorts in the Rottal-Inn district.

Around 50 exhibitors and direct marketers showcase their products at the market. Regional roots are the program – shopping in Bad Birnbach means shopping directly from the producer:

Sunday Shopping

A special feature of the festival: Sunday is Sunday shopping. Shops in the town center and at the market square are open from approx. 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM – a rarity in Bavaria and an additional incentive for visitors from the Rottal-Inn district, the Vilstal, and neighboring Austria.

Bad Birnbach as a Market Town and Spa Resort

Bad Birnbach (officially the "Market Town of Bad Birnbach") has around 5,700 inhabitants and is a compact market town in the Rottal, southwest of Passau. The municipality is known for the Rottal Therme – one of Germany's largest thermal baths – and for its autonomous shuttle, which operates as a pilot project through the town. The Autumn Market builds on the town's old market tradition, which has held market rights since the 14th century.

Customs and Rottal Character

What distinguishes the market from a normal weekly market is the preservation of customs: traditional costumes, brass music (in previous years with performances by local bands), demonstrations of traditional Rottal crafts. The Autumn Market is part of the official Culture and Customs Calendar of the Bad Birnbach spa administration and complements the Spring Market in April.
