About the Exhibition
»The Temperament of Colours« is a summer exhibition in the fishing village of Mönkebude on the Stettiner Haff. It opens with a reception on Saturday, May 23, 2026, and can be viewed until Sunday, July 12, 2026. The focus is on painting with its language of colours — from calm pastels to powerful brushstrokes.
Location and Atmosphere
Mönkebude is located directly on the southern shore of the Stettiner Haff, in the Amt am Stettiner Haff (Vorpommern-Greifswald district, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). The village was first mentioned in 1244 and dates back to a Slavic settlement called Doblowitz; the current name refers to the "Mönchsbude" (monk's hut) of the monks from the Grobe monastery on Usedom. Today, the harbour, beach, and fishing tradition characterise the place — an atmospheric setting for a summer exhibition.
Context
Mönkebude sees itself as a small but ambitious cultural village on the Haff: In addition to the local history museum Fischerstube (since 1996), concerts, readings, and exhibitions are regularly held in the summer. »The Temperament of Colours« is part of these summer programmes and is aimed at holiday guests in the Haff region as well as day-trippers from Ueckermünde, Eggesin, and the surrounding areas of Vorpommern.
Admission and Opening Hours
Detailed opening hours of the exhibition spaces will be published by the Mönkebude Tourist Information and the Amt am Stettiner Haff. Admission to receptions in the Haff communities is traditionally free or for a small contribution.
