Running for a good cause
The Augsburger Zoolauf is a charity run initiated by the Rotary Club Augsburg – Renaissancestadt to benefit the Augsburg Zoo. The concept is as simple as it is charming: participants run laps of approximately 1.4 kilometers each, right through the zoo after it has closed for the evening, past the lion house and animal enclosures. For every lap completed, €2 is donated to the zoo.
For safety reasons, the number of participants is limited to around 350 people – places are regularly fully booked. The fastest male and female runners, as well as boys and girls, win annual zoo passes, while other participants can win leisure and cultural prizes. After the run, the evening concludes convivially in the beer garden of the zoo restaurant.
Sport, animals, and commitment
The Zoolauf combines athletic ambition with voluntary commitment and the special experience of exploring the zoo after closing time at dusk. It is a firm and popular date in the Augsburg event calendar.
