Festive Christmas illumination in Kaiserslautern's city centre and guided night tours through the illuminated old town during Advent 2026.
KL im Lichterglanz is the festive light staging of Kaiserslautern's city centre during the Advent and Christmas season. With the season starting at the end of November 2026, artworks in public spaces, historic buildings, fountains, and churches are centrally showcased; fairy lights span the pedestrian zone, trees shine in warm tones, and individual highlight installations provide special accents.
The focus of the illumination is on the Stiftskirche, the Rathaus, the Stiftsplatz, the Fackelrondell, and the central axes of the pedestrian zone. The complementary squares and smaller alleys are also festively lit, creating a cohesive light display that invites strolling.
Kaiserslautern Tourist Information offers several guided night tours through the illuminated old town in December. Experienced guides will explain the history of the Barbarossa city, the significance of individual buildings and squares, and regional Christmas customs of the Palatinate region over about 90 minutes. The tours are a popular offering for locals and visitors alike; booking is recommended.
KL im Lichterglanz complements the Christmas market at Stiftsplatz and the city's diverse Advent programme. While the Christmas market is about market activities, mulled wine, and handicrafts, the Lichterglanz staging is the quieter, more contemplative format – ideal for an evening stroll with family or friends.
The 2026 Advent illumination is part of the '750 Years of Kaiserslautern' festival year. The city is using the anniversary year to make its identity as a historic Barbarossa city visible and to involve citizens and guests through special accents.
With the season starting on November 25, 2026, KL im Lichterglanz begins its Advent edition in the city's anniversary year. The festive illumination accompanies Kaiserslautern's Advent and Christmas market and concludes at the beginning of January 2027.
The exact 2026 programme will be published by the organiser in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
