Swabian asparagus specialties and club festival in southern Ulm
The Asparagus Festival Grimmelfingen is one of the most beautiful club festivals in the southern Ulm city area (state of Baden-Württemberg, independent city of Ulm). In the Ulm district of Grimmelfingen, the Music and Singing Association Ulm-Grimmelfingen e.V. has been organizing this traditional May weekend centered around Swabian asparagus for decades — the 26th edition will take place in 2026.
The focus of the festival is the noble vegetable: fresh white asparagus from the fields around Ulm, supplied by the regional Spargelhof Thumm. The menu features Swabian classics — asparagus with potatoes and hollandaise sauce, asparagus with schnitzel, cream of asparagus soup, and asparagus salad. The association also serves local wines and freshly tapped beer — a culinary combination that attracts regular guests from all over Ulm and Neu-Ulm every year.
The host, Music and Singing Association Ulm-Grimmelfingen e.V., has been the soul of Grimmelfingen's club life for generations. With its own music, choir performances, and the communal catering by its members, a warm, village atmosphere is created — far removed from commercial large-scale events. The festival finances the association's activities and relies on the help of volunteers, who are rewarded with free food and a helpers' party.
Grimmelfingen is a small district of Ulm in the south of the city on the Danube, nestled between the Danube floodplains and fields. With around 3,000 inhabitants, the district retains its village character — a perfect backdrop for a club festival with an open-air asparagus parlor. Those who want to experience Ulm beyond the Minster and Münsterplatz will find a warm, tradition-conscious side of the city here.
On the weekend of May 16 and 17, 2026, the Music and Singing Association Ulm-Grimmelfingen e.V. will transform the festival grounds at Schmiedackergasse 12 into an open-air Swabian asparagus parlor. On Saturday from 5 p.m., the festival opens with asparagus schnitzel, cream of asparagus soup, and classic asparagus dishes with hollandaise sauce. On Sunday from 11 a.m., a cozy morning pint with lunch and afternoon coffee follows. Live music and choir performances by the host association will accompany the weekend.
You can reach Grimmelfingen from Ulm city center by city bus 4 or 7 in about 15 minutes. By car, take the B30 or Wiblinger Straße. Parking is available around the festival grounds.
