About Kulturtage Aschaffenburg

Every summer, the Aschaffenburger Kulturtage transform the Lower Main city into a single cultural stage for ten days. Concerts, exhibitions, open-air cinema, readings, cabaret, theatre, workshops, and family programs take place in the city's most beautiful locations — from Schloss Johannisburg to Schönborner Hof to the Pompejanum. Each year, a new motto is the focus, bringing together municipal, private, church, and community actors for a joint program. The highlight is the Museum Night, which attracts thousands of visitors with concerts, special exhibitions, and extended museum opening hours. The 27th edition in 2026 will take place under the motto »Schere. Stein. Papier. – 125 Jahre Damm«.

Aschaffenburg's largest cultural festival on the Bavarian Lower Main

The Aschaffenburger Kulturtage are the most traditional and diverse cultural festival on the Bavarian Lower Main. Organized by the Aschaffenburg City Cultural Office, they bring concerts, exhibitions, theatre, readings, open-air cinema, cabaret, and family programs to the city's most exciting locations over ten days — Schloss Johannisburg, Pompejanum, Schönborner Hof, Stadt- und Stiftsarchiv, Volkshochschule, museums, churches, squares, courtyards.

Changing motto, shared stage

What makes the Kulturtage special: a new motto each year that invites all participating actors to collaborate — municipal institutions, independent associations, private organizers, churches, schools, businesses. The themes range from city history to social issues to district anniversaries. This makes the Kulturtage more than just a series of events — more like a temporary urban laboratory.

Museum Night — the highlight

The Museum Night in the second week of the festival is the most visited single event of the Kulturtage. The museums open late into the night, Schönborner Hof transforms into an open-air stage, and the concert program in the courtyard attracts thousands of visitors annually. For years, the German medieval electro duo QNTAL has been a regular fixture of Museum Night — a tradition that will continue in 2026.

FestivalAB App and venues

With the FestivalAB app for iOS and Android, the extensive program can be easily browsed and selected. The main venues are spread throughout the historic city center: the Renaissance castle Johannisburg on the Main riverbank, the baroque Schönborner Hof, the antique-style Pompejanum, the Stadt- und Stiftsarchiv on Wermbachstrasse, the Stadthalle, the museums, churches, and independent theatres.

Aschaffenburg — the "Bavarian Nice"

The Spessart town on the Main, ennobled by Bavarian King Ludwig I as "Bavarian Nice," is a district-free city in the state of Bavaria (district code 09661) and is located in the extreme northwest of Bavaria, on the edge of the Spessart forest. The Kulturtage play with this special location and the city's history as the residence of the Archbishops of Mainz.

Kulturtage Aschaffenburg — edition 2026

The 27th Aschaffenburger Kulturtage in 2026 celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Damm district — under the motto »Schere. Stein. Papier.« For ten days, from July 2 to 12, the Lower Main city transforms into a single cultural stage with concerts, exhibitions, theatre, readings, and family offerings. The highlight is the Museum Night on July 11 with the 35th stage anniversary of QNTAL and Corde Oblique from Naples in Schönborner Hof.

27th edition under the motto »Schere. Stein. Papier.«

The motto of the 27th Aschaffenburger Kulturtage ties into the 125th anniversary of the Damm district — referencing the industrial history of the Aschaffenburg district (paper, stone, non-ferrous metals). From July 2 to 12, 2026, various Aschaffenburg cultural actors will perform in the city's most beautiful locations: Schloss Johannisburg, Pompejanum, Schönborner Hof, Stadt- und Stiftsarchiv, museums, churches, and squares.
