Student-led art exhibition in Bremen North
In the north of Bremen, in the Grohn district near Vegesack, lies the campus of Constructor University, formerly Jacobs University. Once a year, the Arts & Culture Center here becomes the venue for ArtFest – a student-led art exhibition that has been bringing together local and international artists since 2017. You'll experience an international campus audience and an open, curious atmosphere away from classic gallery spaces.
The entire spectrum of contemporary creation is showcased: drawings, paintings, photographs, films, and sculptures by students and external artists. In addition, there are live performances and interactive workshops that make the festival more than just a viewing experience, inviting participation. In previous editions, more than 200 works were featured and over 1,000 guests visited the campus.
Each edition focuses on its own main theme, providing a common framework for the artistic contributions. This creates a dense, thematically connected exhibition experience year after year – an international platform for artistic exchange right in the heart of Bremen-Nord.
ArtFest is free and publicly accessible. The Constructor University campus is easily reachable from Bremen North and invites you to a relaxed art weekend with the Arts & Culture Center – open to families, students, and art enthusiasts from the entire region.
Under the main theme Roots & Routes, ArtFest 2026 invites you to the Constructor University campus in Bremen North on April 17th and 18th. Drawings, paintings, photographs, films, and sculptures by students and external artists will be showcased, along with live performances on Friday evening and interactive workshops on Saturday. Admission is free.
ArtFest 2026 was themed Roots & Routes — an exploration of the connections between identity, origin, and movement. Three sub-themes provided the curatorial framework for the submitted works:
Cartoons, sketches, and collages; painting and drawing; printmaking and digital art; photography and film; poetry, theater, and dance; interactive installations, performances, sculptures, ceramics, textiles, and mixed media — contributions from students as well as local and international artists.
A list of artists by name is deliberately not published in advance by the student organizing team — a curated selection of submitted works will be shown. Updates on Instagram (@artfestbremen) and the festival page.
Admission is free and publicly accessible. No registration required – the exhibition at the Arts & Culture Center is open to families, students, and art enthusiasts from the entire region.
