Pottery and Handicraft Market in the Historic Village Green
Marzahn is now primarily known for its GDR prefabricated housing estate – one of the largest housing projects in the East. However, the historic village center has been preserved in the shadow of the high-rise buildings: a medieval village green with farmhouses, a village pond, a village church, and the KulturGut Alt Marzahn at Alt-Marzahn 23. The KulturGut is a restored farmstead that now houses cultural events, workshops, and a historical museum, supported by the association Agrar-Börse e.V.
The Art and Ceramics Market at KulturGut is one of Berlin's distinguished small ceramics markets. The 20th anniversary edition will take place in 2026 – a remarkable continuity for a format that operates without significant funding. Around 30 ceramic artists and craftspeople from Berlin and Brandenburg present their works over the two market days: tableware, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, textile work, and prints.
The KulturGut is a four-sided farmyard, lending the market a special atmosphere. The stalls are spread across the large inner courtyard, the former barns, and "Schamottchens" – the workshop with a kiln, where ceramics courses take place outside of market hours. This makes the market not just a sales event, but a small showcase of ceramics culture in East Berlin.
Admission is free, and the market is aimed at collectors, gift seekers, and the simply curious. Those who visit on the weekend should allow at least an hour for the market – and more if they wish to explore the entire KulturGut. Getting there by tram is easy: M6 or M8 to "Alt-Marzahn," then a short walk into the village green.
The anniversary year continues the established format: two days of market in the four-sided farmyard, a curated selection of around 30 female ceramicists, potters, and craftspeople, with sales stands in the historic barns and workshop areas. Tableware, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, prints, and small textile works make up the assortment.
Small special accents are expected for the anniversary – however, no specific special exhibition or expanded supporting program was announced at the time of research. The KulturGut will communicate current details via its channels and through Keramik-Atlas.
The exhibitor and stall list for 2026 will be published in advance on keramik-atlas.de and directly by the KulturGut.
S-Bahn S7 to S Marzahn, then Tram M6 or M8 to "Alt-Marzahn" (two stops, approx. 10 min). Alternatively, S5/S7 to S Springpfuhl and Bus 192 or 195. By car, parking is available on side streets; the KulturGut does not have its own parking lot.
Free admission. Ceramics, handicrafts, and refreshments are paid for individually at the stalls.
Before or after visiting the market, a walk through the Alt Marzahn village green (village pond, village church, post mill, farm) is worthwhile – a surprisingly rural contrast to the surrounding high-rise settlement.
